Sadly, no longer a member here. He was in fine form three weeks ago when Mrs. Wow and I attended a very good party at his house.

Mrs. Wow came away with a lump of alpaca which she is intending to do things with. They've not had the wee beasties long but they have been shaved at least once. Apparently when they are fleeced the barbers literally stake them down to the ground to stop them from wriggling and kicking. They don't seem to be so compliant as sheep!

There was a programme on Channel 4 where Kevin McCloud built a shed in the woods. As part of that he helped shear a llampaccuna spitty South American quadruped, it was tied by the 'ankles' to the shearing table and still put up a fight.

He clearly didn't know about the Powah of Custard Creams and South American quadrupeds.

Good to hear.  Phil was excellent company on some of my early Audax adventures and I benefited a lot from his wisdom about long rides.

Agree. I have a vague memory of him giving me a pep talk when I was flagging 800km into my first PBP. I was both amazed and envious of how relaxed he seemed about what was ahead.

Also agree.  Phil was one of the reasons why I stuck with Audax despite it not being fun at times.  Including the time we did a 300km permanent with Manotea, on what was perhaps the worst team effort ever.

Great guy, shame he isn't visible here (or in AUK, AFAIK) anymore.

I don't really know PC, but I did once chat with him at the end of the Bryan Chapman. He had just finished the ride 20 minutes slower than me, him on fixed and me with 27 of Shimano's finest to get me through. And when he arrived at the car park he found that someone had tipped brown fence paint over his car. Can you imagine how the average person would react to that, in such a tired state? He just smiled and shrugged. In my estimation he went right to the top of the tree!

He also kindly donated a lovely mixte frame, which became the basis of a Newton tadpole trike conversion for Mrs109.

He donated his Frankenfixie to me so I could try out fixed riding.  I passed it on gratis, natch.

Lovely man.

I've never met PC properly irl (I suspect our paths have crossed on audaxes without either of us realising it at the time) but I always thought he seemed like a smashing chap despite his vegetarian tendencies, and he very kindly donated me a new monster chainring for my Brompton after a minor catastrophe a few years ago, for which I shall remain forever grateful (it's still going strong).

Phil Chadwick, just like John Spooner, doesn't actually exist.  They are just mythological figures, like the Bogey man.... and Hummers.

Figures created to scare the children and, in the case of Hummers, the adults.
Some people say I'm self-obsessed but that's enough about them.
