This looks fun (inspired by Manotea's London Orbital? :D ) Is it a new event for 2019?

Quote
211km cycling event starting from Balsall Common, West Midlands. Controls at Cannock Chase, Ironbridge and Bewdley, plus 3 information controls.

Village hall start/finish. Pre-ride breakfast and post ride home cooked food included in the entry fee. Wide choice of commercial controls in Ironbridge and Bewdley (including a micro brewery!!)

The Solihull CC ran something very similar a few years back although this is a completely different course than what they used which had controls at Bosworth Battlefield, Rugeley and Kinver.

Still looks to be a good route though and will have another look nearer to the time if not away.

Circuit of Birmingham?... I have been in touch with Trevor at Solihull CC, but they won't organise any Audax next year... they didn't this year either.
Route is completely new and surprisingly rural and scenic... if anyone thinks is going to be a long slog through suburbia (a la Velo Birmingham), think again...

Entries trickled in quite rapidly over the past 24 hours since I opened, to the point where the event is already financially viable 9 months in advance... more entries will mean more on offer on the day...

I would specially like to invite folks on "unconventional cycles"... trikes, tandems, velomobiles, fixed, folding, recumbent etc...

Also, if anyone local wants to help on the day, you are very welcome. There will be a helpers "recce" ride a couple of weeks ahead too

I rode the Solihull C.C. event many years ago, IIRC it was called the Circuit of the Midlands and was organised by Len De Vos.
Was a really interesting ride and on different years, ran in alternate clockwise and anti-clockwise routes.

I would love to do this but as its many, many years since I cycled over 120km, I doubt I will be fit enough to do the whole lap.

I would be more than willing to help out if I didn't ride: somewhere in the north of the route would be best for me as I know the roads between Lichfield and Ironbridge reasonably well.

At £10 perhaps I should just sign up for it and work on my fitness over the winter.....  ;D

I think you should sign up... will give you something to work towards in the bleak midwinter. It's not a hard route for the most... kind of an introduction to the distance

Failing that, I am happy to refund your entry should you decide to help instead... will need a controller at Cannock Chase... I know worse places to spend a couple of hours...  8)

EDIT: there are also bail out option s at km 100 and 150, with trains into Birmingham New Street and Dorridge (9 km from the finish) respectively

Only 5 entries left for "general release", before I close.

There will most likely be a few more places (10-20 MAX) available at a later stage for AUK members only, although I still have to figure out how I can selectively take AUK entries without going back to cheques...

general entries now closed. Reserve list available with priority to AUK members... as above, particularly keen on unconventional cycles: tandems, trikes, foldings, fixed, recumbent etc...

There is nothing unconventional about fixed.

Really enjoyed this. A rainy second quarter was actually quite refreshing. A fair bit of climbing and fun descents. Inspired route and great hospitality at the finish. Cheers Paolo and helpers!

Yes... it was called the Green Heart of England... similar route, but dipped into Leicestershire and avoided Shropshire altogether
