Tis a good move for both. Like them or not a lot of people see Halfords as their first stop when they want a bike or something resembling one.

I doubt the Brompton Brand will be damaged even if service is poor in store in the way say if giant were sold in Halfords as Brompton looks to have an extremely strong branding

And lastly Halfords has improved immensely but is still hit or miss and seems to struggle with staff retention which itself may change as Halfords can probably offer security of job most cycle related shops can't.

Shouldn't be a problem so long as they don't undercut LBSs on price.

A well-known brand was approached by Halfords to supply their products.  As a relatively small firm (one small factory, half-a-dozen employees), they were more than pleased.  They had to provide back-lit display stands for each store at their own expense.

One year later, Halfords said they were very pleased with the success of the product.  So pleased, in fact, that they insisted our young company could reduce its wholesale price by a substantial amount in return for renewal of their contract. 

They did survive, but it was a hard blow.

I don't see it happening for Brompton... they have fantastic bikes that everyone would love to stock... they sell in more countries in the World than most cycling brands. They have an incredibly strong brand, which manages to stay very current and cool. It is more a case of Halfords saying... please please please can we sell your bikes for another year?
