bendy cranks question

my vintage fixed bike
http://homepage.ntlworld.com/huw.ms/fixie%20project/Site/alecstilleyedye.html
has quite bendy stronglight cranks and very light aluminium chainrings. am i better wearing my older shoes which have a bit of give in the sole (to reduce the amount of flex in the crank arms), or my completely stiff carbon soled shoes?
i just wonder if putting too much power through the cranks (honking up hills) is going to stress them and/or the chainring.
cheers in advance

Honking will stress them more (as will any time you push hard) but sole stiffness doesn't make a difference.
