It has not snowed here for a week but I was surprised yesterday at the amount of snow still lying in heaps at the edge of the road and various sheltered places on top of the Mendips. And later, but not late in the day – it was about 17:30 – I was on the high bit beyond the Somerset Levels around Wedmore and was overtaken by a gritter. Doing some spreading. It was getting chilly and yes that is high land at least in comparison to its surroundings (doubt it's actually over 100m asl) but even so, gritting seems excessive.

My grate frend Al in Red Deer AB last Friday. Fortunately it didn't make the 150 km trip south to Calgary before the Shiny ~~Metal~~ Plastic Bird took me back to the tropical climes of That London.

ETA: Red Deer is at the same latitude as Leamington Spa.

The gritters are out in Ceredigion. I guess the plan is to run out of grit before the real winter arrives so that they won't have to go out on dangerous icey January nights.

The gritters are out in Somerset! (I assume only on Exmoor and the Mendips)
Apparently it't the first time since 2012 they've been needed in October.

Ah, that's fine - I'm a Southerner through and through; it's all I can do to work out what the fuck people are saying up here, half the time - so the whole East/West thing is largely lost on me - I can't understand what they (points toward Penrith) are saying either

It was in Manchester (A34 south of Burnage).
