I'll be riding to the start from west London if anyone's interested.

Probably passing Ealing around 5.30 - Swarm_Catcher?

Can I get ready that early?

7:30 is an uncivilised hour to start at this time of year.

You've got to be seriously fast to get away with comments like that. I'm sure Melk will be along sometime around 8:30. No later because he has a dinner appointment...

I quite like it - maximal use of daylight.

Better than standing around in daylight in a carpark waiting for the off, and then finishing with an hour of dark.

I'm entered for the 115km Little Willy and will be riding my Raven Nomad land cruiser.

Looking forward to it!

Oh all right. It's just that I might not rise in time to pedal over, being semi-hibernatory.

An hour of dark?  I wish!  Try 4 or 5 for this particular overweight and unfit randonneur  :-[

Early starts in winter are good, even though I'll be setting the alarm clock for 5am.  The bleak 1 hr drive to the start will, however, be made more bearable by the rather good melodies transmitted by Rob da Bank on Radio 1.

Hmmm..... I might do a Frere Yacker and listen to Rob da Bank in the car.

Thanks for your consideration though, kcass.  A bit later in the year, I would have joined you.

I'll be in a sleeping bag on the floor of a hall that is forever Chalfont.

I might be out.  Knee still not fully recovered from last week and the weekend, and car's just broken down which is a bit inconvenient as I will need to get it to the garage.

Looks like a wiring or earth fault in the charging circuitry.  Battery not charging.

Sleeping on a cold floor may well give you chalfonts.

Au cuntraire monami.

I am packing more than a space blanket in the side pocket of the Salty Laguna.

There will be inflatables, at the very least.

Could be a number of things. Alternator is new-ish. Maybe dodgy wiring.

Remind me what Chalfont St Peter might rhyme with. It sounds nasty, whatever it is.

The forecast is positively balmy. Min 1º max 6º.

It's also about 12 days too early ot have any relevance. ;D

Actually, that forecast is looking spot-on!

unless I get a negatory email from Mr Uttley, I shall be DIY-ing to Marlow then continuing "on route" back to the Chalfonts. If I oversleep I won't see any of you till the finish. (train home from Slough).

I reccy-ed some of the Chilterns section today. Lots of yawning potholes. Lots of snow in the fields, and plenty of water around on the tarmac.
Hence if temps DO drop on Friday night (and some rain is forecast during Friday), it's gonna be dicey on the tops - luckily the forecast is pretty mild FOR NOW.

Sounds loooooovely. Time to fit that new tyre. Right, time to fettle and pack.

Oh, and thanks to whoever linked this thread to the calendar, which I should have done when I started the thread in the first place.
What on earth am I doing here on this beautiful day?! This is the only life I've got!!

Sadly the sun which was promised a few days ago seems to have disappeared from today's forecast.  But still looking like this should be warmer than last year's edition.
Half term's when the traffic becomes mysteriously less bad for a week.

Well here we go... First post for a newbie on the forum.  Phil Magnus, aka "PIP" has enthused me about audaxing, we were going to do the Poor Student together as my first audax but the snow intervened. So I'm doing the Willy Warmer tomorrow and looking forward to it.  I think I'm prepared.... but what from your experience are the things I'm likely to forget that I shouldn't be without?
(working on the principle that it is better to know tonight rather than just in time to be too late at 7 o'clock tomorrow morning!)
