One of the outstanding conductors of his generation died yesterday.
He conducted his first concert when I was only about 3 weeks old. Dez learned the violin for a while and his teacher was a violinist from the Royal Opera House when Haitink was in charge.

We saw Bernard Haitink at the Usher Hall, when we 'did' the Edinburgh Festival in 2004 (I think).
He JUMPED on the podium as he conducted, at the age of around 75.
RIP Bernard High Jinks!

I've got a feeling I went to one of his concerts once, but I can't remember what it was, or where...

I think we heard a Schubert symphony. Programme details or orchestra? Not a chance!
