What do Paul McCartney and Wings, Adam Faith, Donna Summer, George Michael and...er...Julie Covington have in common?

The only thing I know about Julie Covington is she did Don't Cry For Me Argentina.

Can we have the answer please?

Meanwhile, I have thought of the question I couldn't think of on the last page. Which band have had the most hit singles in the UK? There are more than 60 of them (chart hits, not band members, it's not Blazin' Squad). Twentytwo of their chart hits were top ten, but only 2 made it to no1 - and one of those wasn't credited as being by them. Three of their chart hits were re-releases of earlier hits.

They have all had records banned by the BBC.

Wings: Hi Hi Hi (explicit sexual lyrics)
Adam Faith: Made You (lewd content)
Donna Summer: Love To Love You (groans and heavy breathing)
George Michael: I Want Your Sex (obviously)
Julie Covington: Don't Cry For Me Argentina (during the Falklands conflict)

A couple of funny ones: Ivor Biggun's "The Winker's Song (Misprint)" was banned by his own employer as he worked as a sound engineer and, as "Doc Cox", as the rude vegetables man on "That's Life" at the BBC.  Cliff Richard banned his own "Honky Tonk Angel" when someone pointed out that this was slang for a prostitute.

What was the No1 not credited to them? Presume you're not counting their okey-cokey contribution to the Band Aid single  :)

What was doubly-sinister about a group whose name might have been a particular benefit to them?

Neat question as befits a crossword puzzler.  But I have no idea how to unpack it yet. ;D

It was credited to the Manchester United FA Cup squad.

Peter, at a guess, did they have a left-handed bass player and guitarist?

Here's a relatively easy one: what do the following recordings have in common?

10cc - Dreadlock Holiday
Kirsty MacColl - A New England
The Who - Won't Get Fooled Again
And almost anything by Westlife.

I know A New England was written by Billy Bragg, and Westlife never sung an original song in their lives, so I assume they're all cover versions. Or maybe can only be sung sitting on a stool.

But Dreadlock Holiday and Won't Get Fooled Again aren't cover versions, so it must be the stools.

Just got in, Dean!  Yes, pretty much, except it wasn't the bass-player.  Ali and Robin Campbell, rhythm and lead respectively, both played left-handed.  Well done!

Right, then.

What is the literary link between the albums Giant Steps and I AmKidnapped by Neptune?

Re: Pop quiz

This is not it, I think (!) but Giant Steps is an incredible album by John Coltrane.  I am (but what I am I know not) is a poem by John Clare.  John Coltrane is an anagram of John Clare (not).  That would get me quite a few points on Round Britain Quiz but not on here, I suspect!  I don't know the I am album, so will google it but leave the field to someone else.

It's not the John Coltrane album. I'm dragging the thread into at least the nineties...

OK, but I bet my answer's cleverer than yours, ner, ner!

Just googled the I Am and shocked to say I've got it (the album) and it's great -I'd just forgotten it because I know the album more for a different song.

Off to google the other one but won't spill the beans!

It is a good album.

...assuming we're talking about the same artist. A quick google tells me there are about a million albums called I Am. I'll amend the question.

Ok - big change!  the I Am I've got is by Earth Wind And Fire and will therefore be better than the one you are talking about!

Have to bow out now but I know the connection will be good.

There's a Giant Steps by the Boo Radleys.  Is Kidnapped by Neptune by Atticus Finch?
