Have you been out today?
« on: 27 March, 2008, 11:37:48 pm »
Just a short errand-running trip. Banananananas to my aged aunt and Waitrose for a saddlebag full of wine and milk.
The loss of humanity I could live with.

40 miles at a moderate blistering pace, regardless of the terrain.

Today was the first day since November I managed to commute without my woolly hat. Maybe spring is here after all or I've just lost the feeling in my head.
It didn't look at all like that in the photographs

About 10 miles in all, going up and down the same hill lots of times, trying to improve my technique for spinning a fast descent on fixed. I've still got a lot of work to do before I completely eliminate saddle-bounce.  :-\

No riding planned today  :(

But I will dust off the tandem for tomorrow, after the boys have left...

I did my standard 22k long commute from Havant to Denmead this morning. Fairly uneventful but wet and windy. Traffic nice and light for a Friday - I guess lots of people are still off work.

One day I will start taking my camera so I can add some nice pics to this thread.

Commute with 10kg extra stuff in panniers. Didn't have that much of an effect on the speed given the wind.

A short commute which was rather wetter and windier than I would have liked.

No! I'm still ill!  :(

Just the comute home, (the longer route).

At 11 am I was looking out the window thinking I would be using the train home. However by 2pm the sun was out and the wind behind me so a nice steady 25 miles home. ;D

I'll get out tomorrow for a gentle 20miles or so dependant on my poorly knees.
I should be doing 2 audax rides this weekend but have had to cancel :(

The usual commute is all.

4 miles into a headwind and freezing rain this morning. The pain in my forehead by the time I got to work was unreal.

4 miles home in the dry at least.

And it's going to be raining again all weekend  :(

Yep.  This morning my legs were dead.  My head was only awake as it was raining and the water kept hitting my face.  When the alarm went off at 5 am I seriously thought about crawling back into bed and perhaps working from the local station.
But then I felt guilty so I dragged my sorry arse out of bed and got to it.

On the way home though I had a ball.  The wind was right behind me and it was ace ace ace.

Hmmm... this looks familiar! ;D

I tried today, I really did try, but someone kept making it rain...

Nutkin,
I feel sad that you didn't start this thread........ I quite often thought to myself that some threads are inspired and this thread was one of them.  But if you had to hand over to anyone, Wow is a good choice.  ;D

If, for the sake of posterity, Nutkin's name should appear at the top of this thread instead of mine, I don't mind a bit. I'm sure it must be technically possible.

Don't be silly!

It's just nice to know that there is still a thread where small pootles are as welcome as epic treks.

Now, how many more intrepid deluge-cyclists are going to admit to it today?  ;)

No deluge for me, just glorious sunshine (that's the power of positive thinking).

The odd thing was though, no matter if I was heading north, west or east, I still had a headwind.

Still, it's "character building" I guess.  Now, just off to ease my aching thighs.

I have several large houses within two metres of the edge of the road when I turn south close to home.  When the wind is blowing hard from the west / south west like today the wind is right over my right shoulder.  I am buffeted as I crawl along.  When I get to these houses the wind obviously hits the walls and bounces back.  I think of it as my wind rapids.  Damn annoying as I am all over the shop.

Do you cycle along upside down and then use your standard issue truncheon to right yourself? ;)

It felt like I was wearing all the gear this morning, but alas, no, just lycra.
My truncheon is safely tucked away thank you very much.

I was lent a SS yesterday and today, one of those American-style cruiser! I didn´t venture outside the compound though as traffic is a bit dangerous over here... I still had fun.
