The Randonneur 100,000 progress thread
« on: 05 November, 2020, 12:15:50 pm »
I hope there isnt already a thread on this

I tend to tally up my lifetime points at the season end.

While its not an immediate goal I was pleased to see that I'm officially (*) on 647 points as at 31.10.20 from 224 events starting in 2000 so nudging steadily towards the 2/3rds mark for the Randonneur 100,000 award (1000 lifetime points).  https://audax.uk/results/randonneur-brevet-multi-season/

Given that its something of a long game, feel free to report progress here (including any of the 29 who have been listed as achieving it!).

(*) ignores a handful  of 200s I did in the early 80s and mid 90s as a non member.

Chapeau.

Thinking back to my R5000 season I can't imagine doing that for 20 years, or even half of it for 40 years.

Maybe once I get closer to average Audaxer age I suppose.

I did my first ride in 1993, but it looks like the website has records going back to 2000.   I have found my 99 total on the R5000 archive page - I think that was the first time I got 50 points, though.

740 points in 22 years.   Highest year 56, lowest year 4.

Started riding Audax events in October 2015 and my tally up to the end of October 2020 was 658 points. With luck and good health, I might do it by this time in 2023! (he says with fingers crossed).  ;D

I think I am less than 100 points away from qualifying, the exact amount depending on how many points I racked up pre-2000. Nearly the same answer as a year ago...

I've had a look at mine: 572 points since 2013 across 216 events. It's interesting (to me) tabulating the number of each length brevet which the AUK site helpfully lists as a summary for each year ...
200s = 153 (didn't realise it was this many)
300s = 36 (favourite distance, would like to do more)
400s = 14
600s = 8
1000s = 3
1200s = 2
At age 58 I don't think I'll be getting to 1000 points but would quite like the ultra randonneur, 3 to go.

I’m over halfway through my second and my average Audax distance is 322km or 200 miles.

Jon B: my collection of 519 was started at age 61.... perhaps we could merge our lists so that an imaginary composite AUK gets the 1000. Or, I could carry on? Might reach about 525. You could carry on? 1000 on the cards!

Massive respect to the riders on The List.

Wow, that's good going Tony. I think we'd make a good composite rider  :). We'll see about the 1000, I had visions of one more PBP at 60 and then winding it down a bit

That is phenomenal Tony.

I find audax very humbling, I hope I'm still as fit and active as my elder peers later on, at least I'll have Red's wheel to hide behind, if I can still hang on that is...

I joined AUK in 2004 and so far I have 431 points, highest has been 51 and lowest 2.Most years it has been around the high 20's low 30's points wise.

No surprise that 200k events account for almost a quarter of that tally, followed by 300k's (which are also my favourite distance)

Never really been a points chaser so who knows if/when I'll get to the 1000 point mark.

I'm still enjoying AUK events (when they happen  :) ) but getting less keen on cold and wet overnight rides as the years progress.

Mostly I just like riding my bike

Interesting and familiar looking (300s and 600s appear to differ most)

Mine is

200s : 148
300s : 27
400s : 22
500s : 2
600s : 21
1000 : 1
1200 : 3

I've been playing with PowerBI to generate reports. It pulls in results automatically from Aukweb.

183 pts in 4 seasons, some way to go!

This thread prompted me to see what my total might be. Looks like 648 points so, given my recent rate of decline, 1000 looks well out of reach.
Unless I have lots of postal brevets still to be counted...  ;)

If it is of any encouragement here is a plot of my progress to 1000 points:

Once I saw a reasonable total accumulating, my thoughts turned to the magic 1000.

At age 61 in 2008 I was working to 50 points annually, already plotting multiple RRtY completions. Then, in 2009 I played a Trikie blinder with 103 trike points with a 127 point year total at age 62. Now on 572 points, my RRtY ambitions enabled my totals to creep up:

630 at 63; 695 at 64; 748 at 65; 804 at 66; 865 at 67; 947 at 68 and hitting 1000 at 69 during 2016. Undiminished, I have continued to 1090 at 70; 1163 at 71; 1213 at 72 and closing the 2020 season on 1253 at 73.

I think my secret has been to set targets within each year. My ambitions lie within RRtY, which obviously sees my points totals creeping upward. To be open, I have no ambitions to reach 2000, age will see to that. In previous years I have achieved SRs (last in 2018), PBP or LEL but even these may be beyond me as I slow down.

I've been plugging away at this during 30 years of Randonneuring.  Although it took 8 seasons to get my first 50 points, I started to do the RRTY and that got things moving.  I eventually set myself a target of achieving 1000 points before getting my bus pass (which is itself rather a moving goal post) when I was comfortably getting about 50 points a year.  But then various injuries followed by lockdown happened, and I'd been stuck on 840 points for the last 2 seasons.

However, since Perms were allowed from August, I've managed to start again and after last weekend's 200 I'm now on 850 points, which feels quite a break-through.

The bus pass target looks to be out of the question, unless the eligibility age is further increased (which isn't unlikely), so the new target is to complete another 6 RRTYs and I could get 1000 points by the time I've made the biblical 3 score years and ten, from 35 Audax seasons.  At half a life-time, this really is about endurance cycling!

I somehow don't think I'll be getting to this tally, however it is interesting to look back.  My first 200 was as a non-member about twenty years ago, a ride starting at midnight from Spa Cycles in Harrogate.  Organised by the late Alan Pocklington.  Became an AUK in 2004 ish, since then I've completed 3 X 400, 5 X 300s,  and about 106 X 200s.  So 239 points.

Sunshine approaching from the South.

First time in 1,000 years.

I'm on 652 points & hope to carry on for a 1000, my problem is my knees, hands & lower back are giving me problems because of a lifetime of competitive cycling. I got my 1st bike in 1963 & started proper cycling in 1968 aged 11, my 1st race was in 1971 & my last in 2013 the week after completing L.E.L., 865 races & Ultra Randonneur have certainly taken their toll yet I'm still keen & interested in cycling, my plan is to keep RRtY going as long as possible & keep the point up, we'll see.
