Dunno why the UK matters, but I've been using ketoprofen gel for years. Only caveat was not to expose treated skin to UV - apparently it goes blotchy. For hamstrings etc. the doc advised putting on a thick layer under an occlusive dressing before going to bed at night and washing it off in the morning. I've tried it a couple of times but it starves the skin of oxygen if left that long, so I prefer to take if off during my first cludge trudge.
It's always been prescription-only, but most pharmacists used to hand it over it without on the basis that if you knew what it was you'd know how to use it. That's been clamped down on now, on the basis that in this brave new social-media-driven world everyone is friggin' ignorant. They're probably right, at that.
