I've been to a site with the Tandem Club the other side of Rutland Water. Loos, showers etc. Near to a Thee Pubbe. I'll try and work out some more details.
There are two ways you can get exercise out of a bicycle: you can
"overhaul" it, or you can ride it.  (Jerome K Jerome)

I stayed here last October

Friendly place, pretty flat, good toilet block.  Had a curry and a pint at the Red Lion pub about 1.5 miles up the road.

I’ve been reading the recent reviews of Wing Hall - universally awful with comments about the rude hostesses. Plus their own website is enough to put anyone off. Oh, and the cafe is run by a third party, and was supposed to be open 8-5 on Sunday. Sounds like a right dump.

That looks excellent (what's not to like about a pirate themed area?) but £24/night is a bit much for a solo camper.

If you read down that page it notes “special discounted rates for guests arriving… by bicycle” so maybe not so expensive.

Not too bad if only half the arrivals have a car as its per pitch so £12 per person if you put 2 solos on each pitch.

I could pop in a chat to the owners one day.

Just looked through my email exchange.  It was £13 for the night, and I did arrive on my recumbent.

Ah, I managed to miss that entirely.  That's on the expensive side, but not unreasonably so.

They're unambiguously group-friendly, too.

Owl Hollow near Huntingdon

Doesn't appear to have toilets or showers?

Also, not all of us are C&CC members, which you need to be to stay at a Certified Site.

I had this pointed out to me by a Bear. I am sure he meant to point out the  use of  coffee mugs without handles.

Good to see we're CDC compliant.

I thought it was just a bike saddle. Special coffee for cyclists.  ::-)
Riding a concrete path through the nebulous and chaotic future.

This is a small camp site not far from  me. I have never used it. I am not sure that they are in to small tents but there are tents on site. Plenty of good rides to be had locally together with eateries/pubs etc. Station and Bus station less than a mile away in Huntingdon. Edit seems a bit expensive and heavily booked.

Y'see, it's all in the mind and what you see says something about you.

I know not what but I saw a standard saddle with cutaway.  🤔😉

Indicates no tents.  Shame really.

I never really was one for saddles...

The mass exodus is under way.  A forecast of 36 plus hours rain from around midnight tonight has shaped thinking.

It's been a largely overcast and windy weekend with a chilly bite to the wind.

Disappointing end but so nice to see a few people in person again.  My, how Nye has grown.
Nice of the Met Office to back-up our departure decisions with a yellow thunderstorms warning for post midnight Saturday.

My ride back is posted on have you been out today.  :). I also am very disappointed with the wing hall experience. I had a lovely ride up, leaving at 0300 in the morning on Wednesday and got to approx 1 mile off m Harborough. A nice sleep with a nice sunny morning with a view of a mist bank over the valley greeted me in the morning.  A potter into m Harborough for a look round and to find a toilet block for a morning freshen up I found a bakery that supplied 2 lovely authentic pain eu chocolate and a very nice coffee. I left m Harborough around 0950 and took a leisurely route to Uppingham where I purchased supplies at the co-op.
I arrived at wing hall about 1430.I  didn't pitch the tent at first as I couldn't find the pitch numbers (Mrs pb found them hidden in the undergrowth 🙄 ) and two different campers gave me a beer and the other a lovely cream scone 😋. Pitch located and tent erected I wondered over to join the group. I did not stay up to long due to Wednesdays early start. Friday started talking to pb then the rest of the group as they arose into the new day. A potter planned involving viaduct ,cafe and pub . As mentioned my puncture slowed the ride further than wanted. Many thanks for your patience with me on the ride. I had a short chat with Kim who had arrived shortly after our return and we we had beer  and the usual enjoyable group bantering. I was getting cold so retreated to my tent  😴 .  In the morning pb informed me that the weather was inspiring a homeward exodus. So I packed up and attempted to beat the impending downpours. I  failed but I am pleased that I managed to get back in one ride. I am looking forward to York and hoping for better weather luck for that.
I enjoy the hill riding but a flatter area would mean that I would slow the group less. Well ok a little less 😄. Awaiting developments with interest 🙂

Good pictures, Chris!  I think it would be at the last Wing meeting that Torslanda and I forwent the group ride round Rutland Water in order to go and see the engineering marvel that is Harringworth Viaduct.  On the way back, Tors emptied Tesco in Oakham (I think) and made a terrific fry up in a wok.  A lovely boozy evening ensued and my memories of Wing bear no relation to the recent tribulations.  Hope a successful solution is found.

We were the last off site yesterday. The cafe being closed on Saturday and not serving hot food all weekend definitely made the decision to leave easier. We were mostly packed before it rained and made it home in good time. I got soaked today, riding back from returning the hire van, so I was very glad not to have also packed up in it. It was great to see everyone, albeit briefly. Thanks to Polar Bear for finishing the organising and Pedal Castro for leading a lovely, very slow and relaxed ride.

It'll be interesting finding some new sites. I think most of the campers with us are either members of the C&CC or are either old enough for pensioner rates or arriving by bike or foot for backpacker rates. Definitely need a new thread.
