« on: 27 April, 2022, 06:39:25 pm »
Hello

Well am going to see a friend in Poitier and as it is a 7 hour round trip I wondering what there is to do sight seeing wise.

Any cheap hotel recommendations would be nice too.

Has a good cathedral if you’re into that sort of thing.  Comes highly recommended by TV's EO Aquitaine.

Looked at that but not sure if it a single person thing.

Seems to be quite a few cathedrals and churches in the area.

Poitier is twinned with Northampton - possibly not a recommendation.
2x4: thick plank; 4x4: 2 of 'em.

Was there in the early to mid 90s.  Not an experience I want to repeat.

When my children were at primary school the eldest did an exchange with a lad from Poitiers.  He came and stayed with us for a week and my lad went there for a week.

We became friends and even visited the family once during a holiday.

I found Poitiers to be a lovely place.  Lots of history and charm.  Andaz the family really enjoyed Futuroscope.

And yes, I was living in Northampton at that time.

Puy du Fou is amazing if you are taking kids.
Roman amphitheatre with chariot racing, Viking long ship battle, mediaeval stuff. Loads of themed shows in different areas covering different eras.
A much better day out than Disney or any UK theme park (unless you are looking for rides, they don't do those).
The night time Cinescenie show has 2,550 actors on a stage spread over 23 hectares with 28,000 costumes.
I think you'll find it's a bit more complicated than that.
