Quite a shock, that. Certainly can’t be rated as a great player, but was pretty good. A knowledgeable commentator and a great advocate for Wales. Only 65. He died in his sleep whilst on a charity trekking trip in Peru.

Shocked to find that he was so much younger than I. I really only knew of him as a commentator - and they are always older than listeners, aren't they? RIP.

Along with Bill McLaren, Eddie was the voice of rugby as far as I'm concerned. RIP.

Pretty much agree, there, Duncan. Except if we cross codes: Eddie Waring was the definitive voice of Rugby League and comes out ahead of the other two overall - though I recognise that I'm being petty! So, change that to "Petty much agree, etc".
