Alan Igglesden was once picked as "England's 15th choice seamer", but presumably we can find a 16th choice opening batsman, and a 17th to go in with them.

Kent maybe about to provide England's 4th choice wicketkeeper

I've just finished sitting through the entire TMS broadcast on BBC Sounds for the last day of the last test (I couldn't face listening to it overnight), and it cuts off four overs from the end !!

It crossed my mind this afternoon, whilst deep in conversation with my good pal Penelope, that when I shuffle off this mortal coil I might raffle the burnt offering amongst members of the England cricket team.

Dear god. I listened to this overnight and went out for a ride when we were looking pretty good for a nail-biting finish at 68-1. Came back, turned on the news and we've lost by 146 runs. Rather glad I went out. That's pathetic after such an encouraging start.

Result not a total shock, but still an unexpected slump.

Still, whitewash avoided! :P

England need 50 runs off 60-odd balls to win the WAshes test, after AUS made a "sporting" declaration, loads of wickets in hand....

... and the BBC Sounds episode ends.

No Highlights show listed.

This is lovely... it's the bowler's reaction that really makes it:

And the batswoman! She has a wide grin when she sees what happened.

I gain the impression that there's a lot more camaraderie between opposing teams in women's sport than there is in men's.

Sensational commentary to start the after lunch session, on BBC website:-

"I see cricketers in whites making their way to the middle in Barbados."

England batting for a draw on the first morning.  Boycott would be proud. Wake me up when it's over.

You can overdo such tactics, though:  Brathwaite batted for 12 hours at a mammoth 13 runs an over.  Another way of looking at it is he gave England's blistering bowling attack 12 hours to get him out....

As I said earlier, England's batting on day 1 made a draw the likely outcome.  Hardly surprising if the WI's responded in kind. Some were saying after day 2 that the magnificent display by Root & Stokes had swung things in England's favour, but that was assuming a poor Windies reply (never judge a pitch until both sides have batted, etc.)

It's not surprising though.  England are bound to be nervous of the openers throwing their wickets away.  However there is a balance, and the day 1 batting (especially the first session) was more paranoid that cautious.

Having said that, England may still pull off a win today  ;D
