The road from Abergwesyn through to Tregaron is in pretty good shape. After the Devil's staircase it's very smooth, well it goes up and down a bit but the surface is smooth!  :P

;D

I've only ever ridden in that area on 25/23mm. And I remember a section near the phonebox being resurfaced about 2 years ago. There are a few grains of gravel round Llyn Brianne, but nothing of note.

So I'm surprised the question has even come up! Plus this is Wales we're talking about - if it's marked as a road on the map, it's usually a good surface (or at least twice as good as you'd expect in England).

The road up after the telephone box is really really  smooth

the descent in to Tregaron has a few patches of gravel in the centre of the road

Hang on, isn't this the one with toad hazards?

Did it on 25s last summer.

Through the suffering, can't say I noticed the state of the surface at all, but I would rate it as the single most challenging road I've ever ridden!

Sounds like no problem apart from the gradient and toads.

And the potential for certainty of WEATHER.
Last time I was there....Snow at Abergwesyn, sunshine on the Staircase, hail on the descent to Tregaron

Worth checking the height of the Irfon to see if it's going to see if the bridges are currently bridges before setting out!
