He was one of only two who were canny enough to jump on Spartacus' wheel when he made his second break. Well I wouldn't have predicted that victory! Very well done to him.

I must admit i am a fan of spartacus ^^^^ when someone has the guts to go on his own with 60km to go and try to ride everyone of his wheel to the finish you have to admire him but that was close i really enjoyed it best hangover cure i have tried for a while :thumbsup:

Fantastic race. Shame about Cancellara, he had the legs to leave Boonen but tactically it wasn't his day. Brilliant ride by G :thumbsup: Roll on next week !

Well done Nick, but for me the heroes were Sylvain and Fabian who both put in great efforts

Going ot, did anyone hear the commentators (Euro-sport) mention the accident in the womens road race series in Windsor this afternoon. Apparently it involved at least one rider being air-lifted to hospital.

5 of my clubmates were riding that... apparently there was large crash on each of 2 or 3 of the laps, each one taking out a large number of riders. Seems like the main reason they stopped the race was to allow ambulances (including a helicopter) through.

I agree with the above, but I thought that Sylvain "lost" the final sprint by overplaying his support role to Tom Boonen. He seemed to be hanging back waiting for Tom, then when he did make his effort although he appeared to be the strongest it was too late.
Just my opinion of course, but I also thought that there was quite a large group of riders "in at the death" before Fabian made his final effort with a couple of Kms to go which should make Paris/Roubaix very interesting.

Yes, I think Sylvain realised this.
Cancellara's efforts 4 kms out to smash the group of 10, and then again 400m from the line to distance Boonen, showed incredible strength after his earlier big break.
Amazing race with some great pointers for the next few weeks

I enjoyed that. Eurosport had a good introduction to the race, with interviews with Cancellara, Gilbert, Haussler et al.
Given his form and his show of strength in the E3 race I was expecting FC to ease away from SC and time-trial to a comfortable victory. That he seemed to crumble on the church hill (can't remember its name) and then on the Bosberg, but still get into the decisive group of three for the run-in shows the measure of the man.
Harmon suggested that Chavanel was too far behind for the inadvertant twitch by Nuyens to have had any effect, but he'd already had to come the long way round Cancellara, so it could have been a different story. Then again, had Cancellara not had to open up his sprint early to keep Boonen out of the equation, it could have been either Boonen or Cancellara for the win.
Not a very bold prediction, but: FC for Paris Roubaix.

Anyone else think that the Tour of Flanders is a better race than Paris/Roubaix?
The hills make is a more interesting race IMO. Still love to watch both of them.

Depends on the weather to a certain extent. A wet Paris-Roubaix is pretty entertaining and unpredictable regardless of how it's raced.
Sunday's Tour of Flanders was only entertaining because Cancellara didn't get away from everyone at his first attempt. Much as I admire him, it would have been quite dull to watch Fabian timetrial to the finish again.

I loved Cancellara's post-race comments, amongst them:
"I lost by trying to win, the others rode only to make me lose. And in the end the one who was always in the wheels won."
I think I'd back him next weekend..
