First go on an E-bike
« on: 22 September, 2023, 10:32:13 am »
Just got back from holiday in France this week.
Whilst in Narbonne we hired a pair of E-bikes to ride from the city centre along the canal and across the nature reserve to Guisann and back. Mrs Pcolbeck has a dodgy foot after breaking it a couple of years ago and no way could have done it on a normal bike plus it was very hot, France was having a mad heatwave!
What fun, never tried an E-bike before. Even on eco mode it was dead easy, touring mode was fun and turbo was just silly.
Just normal dutch bike type things but with from suspension. Bosch motors and controls.
I can definitely see the attraction.
Made for a great day out that we wouldn't have been able top do without the power assist. Plus we got to see some flamingos on the etang!
I think you'll find it's a bit more complicated than that.

Aye, turbo is just silly.  I usually ride with assistance on 0 or 1 out of 5 available.  Put it on 3 and it goes like a bat out of hell. The daft thing is that if you hit the start of a hill like that it'll then sail up like the clappers as long as the motor can manage, but your residual battery capacity looks rather glum afterwards.
I've dusted off all those old bottles and set them up straight
