That once happened with me and my dad: "Is he your brother?".  I'd have been about 21 and he about 45.

I was once asked,when I was 17,
"Is that your sister I saw you with the other day?"
It was my mother.

halfway up Ditchling Beacon on the London-Brighton one year:  "Oy mate, you got an engine on the back of that?"

My favourite work-related one was reported by a colleague who met someone with whom I used to work, at a conference: "They didn't realise how good he was until after he'd gone."

Maybe that's one for the headstone.

When I was sailing as we had finished ahead of a pro who was 15 or 20 years older than us (an advantage as experience and strength matters more than fitness) at the local race.

He came to see us and said:

"Bien navigué les gars" (Well sailed guys!)

At the British Chess Championships some years ago, during one evening's silly chess sessions (mostly put on to entertain the teenage players) a group of four parents of Essex players teamed, myself included.

I had no idea who the controller of the event was, but he gave us a special prize "because the presence of Peter Walker makes you look like a real chess team!"  ;D

An ex girlfriend who came out directly after we broke up, let it be known to me and our friends at the pub that 'for a useless tosser' I was really quite sweet.  ::-)  ;D

Someone had left, on a First Capital Connect train, their battered old and rather large filofax. After verifying with everyone else that it did not belong to them, I found his home number inside, called the man's wife and told them I would stick it in the post for him.

I then got an e-mail back from him saying 'that he did not think human beings like me existed anymore'  :)

Gosh.  Fancy having your own number in your filofax.  You'd think he knew it.
Ah - unless it was in case of just such a situation.

Not as bad as a friend of mine many years ago.  I noticed that she had her address on her key fob.  When I asked why, she explained that it was in case she lost them.
 :o

I sat her down and eplained.  :)

Admission.  I'm actually not that fussed about cake.

That's why my "HOME" setting on my SatNav is actually set to a fictious house on the next street.

Apparently it's not uncommon for car thieves, who steal cars from public car parks and such like, to immediately pay you a home visit (knowing that at least the driver won't be able to get home for a while).

When I was teaching and earning too little to own a car, I found someone's purse, laden with cash and cards, in the gutter by a newsagent's. I took the purse into the newsagent's to find out if the owner was in there, and they weren't, so I hunted through the purse and indeed did find an address. I cycled round to the house and to return the purse. The owner was out looking for it and reporting its loss to the police, but her husband was in. I gave it to him. He was very grateful and asked my address.

Later that evening the owner visited me and gave me £5 for my efforts.

My brother was given a bottle of champagne when he returned someones iphone after they'd left it on the train.  Nice, but not quite the same value as the new wheel my bro's car needed when he shattered it in a pothole on the farm track he drove down leaving the guys house.

A very long time ago when I was about 12 a girl said I was dead fit (meaning hot) to which I replied well yes I am because I do a lot of sports (I hadn't got a clue)  ;D  I get plenty comments from women saying they wish they were as slim as me or had my legs & the best compliment from work was when everyone had to vote for somebody to win an i pod for being their favourite underwriter & I got every vote  ;)
