Blimey! That's a really good reminder to not ignore these things and go to the doctor, even if you think you know what's wrong!
Absolutely.
I am a bad one for this with my, "I'll be OK" attitude.
My case was a bit special though. The normal warning for an abscess is pain and swelling. I never had the pain because mine was exceptionally deep. I was tired at first, which baffled the doctors. I had a real freaky one and it's almost always much more straight forward than what I had. No catheters or anything, just a quick, neat operation and you're done, just like a chap in the bed opposite me when I left.
I was hoping I'd get to see a doctor when I went to the chemist, but this crept up on me, with me thinking at first that I was just tired. I should have had pain and swelling from the very start which would have rung alarm bells for me. I never had that to go on, so thought I was pretty OK and didn't need a doctor, so had no appointment. The depth of my abscess was what caused my urination issues, the doctors had to work this out because it was unheard of. I really did have a freak.
I'm a tough guy anyway. So perhaps it's better that I had than a weaker man who may have come off much worse. I'll put it down to experience and be stronger from this. Hopefully wiser too.
