Love the Scala, great venue.

It was great in the days as a cinema too - especially the all-nighters  ;D

So I’ve heard. Before my time, unfortunately.

Shirley, if they are taking money from my bank account, it should show up as a transaction on my bank statement. No?

All your touches just record where you’ve been.  Overnight TfL analyses them and charges you once for all of the previous day’s journeys. The money is distributed onwards to train companies via arcane formulae and algorithms.

But you can use the TfL website to check its recorded your journeys correctly and what you’ve been charged for each one. Even if you’ve not used any TfL services.

I believe C2C

They already do for stations just outside London. It’ll be expanding to all of their rail stations soon.

still think there's an upper daily limit

If you use the same debit card for all your journeys you’ll never be charged more than the price of the equivalent day travelcard for one day’s travel. And never more than the price of a weekly travelcard for a whole week’s travel.

(It is, of course, more complicated than that)

I now have two countries where I've managed to collect all the tiles to cover the whole country...

I think you’re on the money there, VB.  It's not very clear in the other photo on Flickr but it looks like the break started at the rear “dropout” so David may account himself fortunate that it wasn’t the wheel that fell off.

How much is it daily? I believe there is an upper limit.

Disclaimer: I have never owned a mollusc of any kind.

This isn't an Oyster card. It's a contactless bank debit card.

I was actually thinking about debit/credit cards. I still think there's an upper daily limit. That might be irrelevant to your question.

I believe C2C - the line that serves Southend from Fenchurch Street - has introduced, or will soon, some form of contactless system. I haven't travelled on that line for quite a long while, though, so I don't know how it works, particularly with such nicetires as the OBRC.

Contactless is all administered by TfL. You’ll never see a charge from other operators*.

Fares are normally charged as one price based mostly on the beginning and end  points even when you change trains or leave or enter barriers, which is normally less than it’s constituent parts.

You can check what you’ve been charged on the TfL website.

(* Some tinpot local operators have their own schemes but they either have their own special cards of don’t overlap with TfL’s)

Saw them at the Scala in Kings Cross back in the day. We were up on the balcony, where there was an ~80mmØ stainless balustrade tube to prevent anyone from launching themselves into the rhythm. The balustrade tube had holes in it every 2m or so. Air was being blown out of these as the balustrade vibrated to the bass.  :o

It’s always nice to go to a gig that has a sense of jeopardy.  ;D

Love the Scala, great venue.

@citoyen that sounds fun - I saw Acid Klaus at Lewes Psych Fest and they were great.

They were superb! Thursday’s gig was a one-off to mark the 20th birthday of Transgressive Records but Moonlandingz have got a new album coming out next year so hopefully there’s a tour in the offing. Well worth seeing if you get the chance. More rock-y than Acid Klaus but very danceable.

Was at the Barbican last night to see Jane Weaver… well, she was supporting Gruff Rhys who was also pretty good but it was mainly Jane I wanted to see. And I’m seeing her again tonight in Margate. From the 3,000 capacity Barbican to the 150 capacity Elsewhere… Will be quite a contrast. It’ll be the sixth time I’ve seen her live in the past three years. I’m quite a fan, in case you couldn’t guess.

And after hearing Will Gregory (off of Goldfrapp) on the radio this morning, I’ve been moved to buy a ticket to see his Moog Ensemble accompanied by the Britten Sinfonia next month. That will also be at the Barbican.
