Two things stood out for me.

. I met a young boy with his dad, who had travelled together from Scotland to be there.

That's making a real event of it. I'd love to think that afterwards, the boy told his dad he wanted to ride all the way home.

The period stretching from March 2020 to July 2022 felt like one long, unbroken year.

Really? Well evidently it did for him. For me, and I'd guess, judging by their behaviour, for most people, July 2022 felt more like July 2019 than March (or at least April) 2022.
