How about some nominative antideterminism? A denier standing for the Greens (and you thought you'd escaped politics in the Pub; sorry!)

There's a guy on one on the same FB groups that I'm on - Bicycle Touring and Bikepacking - whose name is Rod Wanker. Honestly. Go and look him up. He's from Oregon.

He has just posted about the number of miles he managed in 2019 - about 1800. He mentioned that he has toured in every continent except Australia and said he was reluctant to tour there because of his surname. Some bright spark - an Aussie of course - said that he would feel very welcome there because every passing motorist would wind their window down and call out his name.

Everton are considering signing 23-year-old Brazilian international Everton Cebolinha, generally known as 'Everton'.

On the BBC 6 o’clock news just now;

Drug abuse support worker, Mr Edward Baggy.

Reading papers about treatments for shoulder pain.  Found one with authors named Bone and Armstrong.

I assume that James Cleverly has had a mention on this thread for being the total antidote to nominative determinism?

Especially so since Frickley Colliery changed their name to Frickley Athletic in 1974.

The advantage of inventing an child for 'comic' purposes is that I can also invent his baptism date as being in late 1973.

Ye nominative determinism dattes bakke a longye way....

"St. Bride's position as the journalists' and printers' church dates back to 1500, just after the death of William Caxton, inventor of the moveable type printing press. An apprentice of his, Wynkyn de Worde, acquired his master's press, and set up shop in the churchyard of St. Bride's."
Could be a byname from his job, so the other way round.

ICR if I've posted this (and CBA to look): in the '70s, went to a talk and slide show given by a mountaineer who's lost his legs - chap's surname was Croucher.
The audience, being almost all hill-walkers, cavers etc., burst out laughing when he was introduced.

On the way back from yesterday's Chiltern Grit event, I noticed that the Aylesbury crematorium is in Bierton.
