Well, OK, Tuesday.  Didn't get back from dinner until 10:30 pm nad had to get up at 4:45.  Bah!

High points from Monday: New European Record for Damjan Zabovnik / Eivie III at 77 mph plus some change; 60+ mph for Todd Reichert (sp?) / Ace (University of Toronto) on his first run over the full course.

Low points: Very windy for the first evening session, Damjan crashed in the braking zone, Larry Lem's new bike Cyclops has major issues and is pretty much unridable with the full fairing on; Miner Details - the bike from Missouri University of Scince & Technology - hasn't made it to qualifying yet as it still needs some fettling, not to mention polishing, after Whitney someone-or-other dropped it in the car park.

Too windy this morning but no wrecks and nobody drownded.

I see that you've opted for a quiet hire car again. What's your best effort through the traps?

Indicated 180 mph.  We don't have the optical timing system this year so no accurate figures chiz.

Sweet mother of fornicating fuck - 180mph?  Even in my days of extreme motorcycling stupidity, I never managed anything quite that brain-out.

I take it that the Battle Mountain rozzers are relaxed about this sort of thing?

Will there be photographs of these fine human powered sossidges?

Here is the main website (for the BM2010 effort):
The Recumbent Bicycle and Human Powered Vehicle Information Center

Go to event results and then pick a day for the mostness of the photographs and daily reports.

Full results and pictures are available on there in an easy to digest format (though the forum, linked above by Rich, often gets the news up a bit quicker).

First the bad news.  Damjan's European record has turned out to be nothing of the sort, alas, since it was subsequently discovered that his helmet is self-made and thus non-approved, and therefore messes with the insewerants.  ASttempts are being made to find a koher replacement.

Now the good news.  The weather was much better today (Wednesday) and Barbara Buatois edged her own Women's world and outright European record to 75.6.  A new PB for Eric Ware in the Wedge and 71 and a bit more than last year, and for Ron Layman in Primal 2, with a 70,something.  I am a nidiot and thus didn't write the numbers down.  Sam did 81.5, which is a bit meh! these days.

P.S Photos at or near http://www.flickr.com/photos/mr_larrington/.  I would have updated y'all earlier but I elected to go back to sleep this arvo instead.

Auntie C, the 180 was on the course whe the road was already closed; the Highway Patrol have been out mob-handed since we arrived and have so far stopped two of our number, though neither was:

  • Me, or
  • For speeding

I have so far used the 'vette to pull three blondes.  Well, sort of.  Ellie is a lday of mature years and, in spite of telling her husband repeatedly to slow down, positively demanded a run at full speed.  This evening I also gave her daughter Tiffany a ride (fnarr fnarr), plus another member of their team - Kara - who is sixteen and well fit  O:-)

Also the passenger seat belt has jammed :-\

The team from Toronto Uni have been lending him one but last night he buggered up his front axle so couldn't run chiz.

PB of 69.9 for Dutch comedian Thomas van Schaik this morning; weather forecast looks good for the rest of the week...

Wind, and far too much of it.

Bah!

Chillis? Cabbage? Sauerkraut? Beans?

Does that mean records are not 'wind assisted'? Or is that an unfair advantage?

Well that's the more blunt way of putting it but as usual he's dead right.

Maximum wind speed for a record run is 328 feet/minute - 3.7 mph - 1.67 m/s, which is averaged for ten seconds at the time the bike is in the timed 200m.

All over now.  Too few low-wind runs to make it a real classic.  Barbara went 76.4 on Saturday night but, typically, she was the only person in the second group of five who didn't have legal wind.  Bah!

I'm going back to sleep.
