BikePolo - Brutal
« on: 30 May, 2010, 09:47:19 pm »
Went down to Cambridge today to spectate at the BikePolo tournament - about 20 teams from all over the UK, and one from Karlsruhe.  :o

'Tis a brutal game

Wheel discs keep balls & mallets out of the spokes:

"3...2...1...POLO!" signals the start, and players race from their goal line to get the ball first

Gurls take on the guys and are just as 'ard.

3 players per team. one usually guards the goal. Dabbing a foot means you have to ring a bell on the centre-line before taking an active part in the game again.

A neat dirty trick is to yank the keeper's mallet away so he falls to the ground

The skills and courage of all the players was awesome.

But eventually someone tumbles

There's quite a mixture of fixies and single speeds. Some of the fixers run brakeless, most SS's run at least a rear brake, some 2 brakes off one lever.

Quite alot of rubber on the court from skid-stops.  ::-)
