Creaking Brompton steerer

Hi - for the last few weeks I've been noticing frequent creaking sounds from the steerer tube of my 2017 Brompton, what could be causing this? Surely the headset can't be shot already?

My Brompton's headset seems to enjoy loosening itself when I ride on crap surfaces...

(Of course the usual rule of bike squeaks applies: They may not be coming from where you think they're coming from.)

BTW I get the creaking even when the bike is folded, so don't think it's the hinge clamps

If you can make it creek while not being ridden, then you're probably right about where it's coming from.  *defers to the Brompton experts*
