New BT Speaker not working with laptop

When I say not working,
1) it's my work laptop (which has a high degree of being nailed down)
2) it's connecting and seems to be recognised, but I can't get music out of it and I can't get Lync to recognise it as a phone speaker/mike
Help!

That one is Win 7.
Working absolutely fine with blackberry, Android tablet and win 10 machine

in Control Panel>Sounds you should see the speaker listed. You need to select that one as the output option.
Unfortunately I left my Bluetooth speaker at home* so can't give more detail.
First World problem: which means I have to listen to the radio rather than my music

It's not listed for some reason. I can only imagine that it's the settings our IT people have used, they are paranoid about wireless devices

For reasons opaque to me, the laptops issued by our mothership had no Bluetooth. Probably fear of pirates.
Win7 didn't go out of its way to make this obvious. It really didn't.

This is the really odd thing, it's listed in devices, connects etc, I just can't select it for use.
