Take me down to the Paris city
Where the grass is green and the girls are pretty
Take me home, yeah yeah
Take me down to the Paris city
Where the grass is green and the girls are pretty
Oh won't you please take me home, yeah

So far away
So far away
So far away
So far away

Captain America's been torn apart
Now he's a Brest jester with a broken heart
He said "turn me around and take me back to the start"
I must be losing my mind "are you blind?"
I've seen it all a million times

Take me down to the Paris city
Where the grass is green and the girls are pretty
Take me home, yeah yeah
Take me down to the Paris city
Where the grass is green and the girls are pretty

You're no SON of mine - Genesis

Things were never easy for me
peace of mind was hard to find
and I needed a place where I could hide
somewhere I could call mine

I didn't think much about it
til it started happening all the time
soon I was living with the fear everyday
of what might happen at night

he said:

You're no SON, you're no SON of mine
You're no SON, you're no SON of mine
You walked out, you left us behind
and you're no SON no SON of mine

We were talking about audax songs on the Arrow, and I was trying to remember this one, Lovin' Arms by Millie Jackson:

Quote
I've been too long in the wind
Too long in the rain
Taking any comfort that I can
Looking back and longing for
The freedom of my chains
And lying in your loving arms again

Great song anyway!

This one came on in the car the other day... Willing by Little Feat

https://youtu.be/yb5xyLLgKbU

I been warped by the rain
Driven by the snow
I'm drunk and dirty, don't ya know
And I'm still, oh, I'm still
I'm out on the road late at night
I see my pretty Alice in every headlight
Alice, Dallas Alice

Someone must've mentioned Willin' before, surely?

Rumour is, Lowell George was in Frank Zappa's band and showed the song to Zappa, at which point Frank chucked him out and told him he was far too good to play a bit-part in someone else's band.

Truth is, Lowell was an audaxer:

Quote

I been warped by the rain
Driven by the snow
I'm drunk and dirty, don't ya know
And I'm still, I'm still - willin'
I'm out on the road late at night
I see flapjack in every headlight
flapjack, blessed flapjack

I've been from Comrie to Combeinteignhead
Castleton to Cullercoats
Ridden every kind of frame that's ever been made
Ridden the back roads so I wouldn't get waylaid
And if you give me wheels, whites, and cake
And you show me an arrivee sign
I'll be willin' to be movin'

Le Monde est Stone by Martha Wainwright

J'ai la tête qui éclate
Je voudrais seulement dormir
M'étendre sur l'asphalte
Et me laisser mourir

Stone
Le monde est stone
Je cherche le soleil
Au milieu de la nuit

(I've a head about to burst
I'd like only to sleep
To stretch myself on the asphalt
And let myself die

Stone
The world is stone
I'm looking for the sun
In the middle of the night)
Milk please, no sugar.

Has anybody done "I'm on the road to nowhere" Talking Heads.
Every audax I have done takes hours and you end up where you started.

Doesnt even need to be an Audax for that one.

One of my enduring memories is from somewhere near here
Small voice from 9 y.o. on back of tandem: "Dad?"
"Yes"
"Is this the road to the middle of nowhere?"

'Top of the World' often features after a long climb. Also 'Itsa kind of magic' and countless earworms too ridiculous to mention! On a recent ride (alone) I wrote a song in my head to the tune of 'Drunken Sailor' along the lines of'

What do you do when your mojo's waning? (x3)
Early in the winter

Wrap her up in wool until she's cosy (x3)
Early in the winter

Way hey and up she cycles (x3)
Early in the winter

Feed her up with cakes and soups and chocolate (x3)
Early in the winter

Way hey etc...

You get the picture - other verses were added; feel free to add your own!

500kms by The Proclaimers:

When I wake up, well I know I'm gonna be,
I'm gonna be the man who wakes up next you
When I go out, yeah I know I'm gonna be
I'm gonna be the man who goes along with you
If I get drunk, well I know I'm gonna be
I'm gonna be the man who gets drunk next to you
And if I haver up, yeah I know I'm gonna be
I'm gonna be the man who's havering to you

But I would cycle 500 kms
And I would cycle 500  more
Just to be the man who cycles a thousand kms
To fall down at your door

When I'm working, yes I know I'm gonna be
I'm gonna be the man who's working hard for you
And when the money, comes in for the work I do
I'll pass almost every penny on to you
When I come home (when I come home) well I know I'm gonna be
I'm gonna be the man who comes back home to you
And if I grow-old (when I grow-old) well I know I'm gonna be
I'm gonna be the man who's growing old with you

But I would cycle 500 kms
And I would cycle 500  more
Just to be the man who cycles a thousand kms
To fall down at your door

Da da da (da da da)
Da da da (da da da)

Da da da dun diddle un diddle un diddle uh da

Da da da (da da da)
Da da da (da da da)

Da da da dun diddle un diddle un diddle uh da

When I'm lonely, well I know I'm gonna be
I'm gonna be the man who's lonely without you
And when I'm dreaming, well I know I'm gonna dream
I'm gonna dream about the time when I'm with you
When I go out (when I go out) well I know I'm gonna be
I'm gonna be the man who goes along with you
And when I come home (when I come home) yes I know I'm gonna be
I'm gonna be the man who comes back home with you
I'm gonna be the man who's coming home with you

But I would cycle 500 kms
And I would cycle 500  more
Just to be the man who cycles a thousand kms
To fall down at your door

Da da da (da da da)

What about "My Whyte Bicycle)  Tomorrow/Nazareth

Ridin' all around the streets
Four o’clock and they’re all asleep
I’m not tired and it’s so late
Movin' fast everything looks great

My white bicycle
(My white bicycle)
My white bicycle
(My white bicycle)

See that man, he’s all alone
Looks so happy but he’s far from home
I ring my bell and smile at him
Then I go by his rubbish bin

My white bicycle
(My white bicycle)
My white bicycle
(My white bicycle)

The rain comes down but I don’t care
The wind is blowing in my hair
Seagulls flying in the air

My white bicycle
(My white bicycle)
My white bicycle
(My white bicycle)

Lift up both hands, his head in disgrace
Shines no light upon my face
Through the darkness, we still see
My white bicycle and me

My white bicycle
(My white bicycle)
My white bicycle
(My white bicycle)

Policeman shouts but I don’t see him
They’re one thing I don’t believe in
He'll find some judge but it’s not leavin’

My white bicycle
(My white bicycle)
My white bicycle
(My white bicycle)

My white bicycle
(My white bicycle)
My white bicycle
(My white bicycle)

WADA might get a bit shirty as it was supposedly about being trashed on certain substances!!

You Keep On Moving - Deep Purple

You keep on moving
Far away far away
You keep on moving
Far away far away
Everyday wheels are turning
And the cry still returning

Dawn will soon be breaking
The day has just begun
You put your arms around me
Like a circle 'round the sun
Dance across the seasons
To a place that no one knows
Where angels fear to tread
If you can't convince, confuse.

So you've got the blues
The evening wore out your shoes
To a shuffling beat
It's a colourful crowd
Spraycan information
Cover the lonely station
Checkpoint for the state of the nation

On the missionbeat beat
The radio drug
Wayward destinations
Secondhand sensation
In the back of the cell
The plug and the cord
Shoulder dislocation
Bruised in isolation

In the eye of the storm
Writing on walls
Cross my heart confusion
Looking for a new solution

It's the heat of the land
Swallowing sweat
Say those dreams can shake me
Dawn come down and save me

Take this heart
Break this heart
Wrap it up and let me sleep

British Sea Power - Machineries Of Joy

We're of primitive abolution
Like a hobbyist of deranged proportion
Or the wait is yours and we’ve failed again
The fleshy existance you keep to yourself,
Is secure

[Chorus]
We are magnificent machineries of joy
We are magnificent machineries of joy
Machines of joy, and then some
Machines of joy, and then some

You are a vision of extraordinary contortion
An athletic form of warm distortion
And the triumph's yours, we lose again
The fleshy existence you keep to yourself,
Is secure

[Chorus]
We are magnificent machineries of joy
We are magnificent machineries of joy
Machines of joy, and then some
Machines of joy, and then some

You are a vision, you are a vision, a vision
Tell me what he said, it doesn’t really matter
Just tell me what he said, and I don’t really care
It’s only what he said,
We can make it better
Tell me what he said, no I don’t really care

Help is on the way, help is on the way
Help is on the way, we all know

It's a kind of vision, it's a kind of (x2)
it's a kind of vision.

[Chorus]
We are magnificent machineries of joy
We are magnificent machineries of joy
Machines of joy, we meant some
Machines of joy, we meant some.

Wham - Last Christmas

Last Christmas, I gave you my bike
But the very next day, you gave it away
This year, to save me from tears
I'll give it to someone special

Last Christmas, I gave you my bike
But the very next day, you gave it away
This year, to save me from tears
I'll give it to someone special (special)

Once bitten and twice shy
I keep my distance but you still catch my eye
Tell me baby do you recognize me?
Well it's been a year, it doesn't surprise me

I wrapped it up and sent it
With a note saying "Ride me" I meant it
Now I know what a fool I've been
But if you asked me now I know you'd fool me again
