3 Down London New Forest 300K Ride
« on: 09 October, 2019, 02:07:14 pm »
This event, the most popular 300 in the Calendar, will be run on April 4th 2020. It will open for entry Midnight Saturday (12th). For the weekend entrants to the 2019 event will be able to enter to claim a guaranteed place (these people have an email with details) and women will get priority entry. After that it is first come first served until the event is full.

Reading CTC will be again delivering their great breakfast, with the superb coffee and cakes at the Woodfire, Stockbridge.

The route is slightly changed, but the same length, to go through Fordingbridge to give a better choice of facilities than just the garage there. It then loops north with a  view of the splendid Hale House.

You will be able to sleep at the start on the floor the night before.
Events I am running: 5th September 2021, the unseasonal Wellesden Reliability; HOPEFULLY Early April 2022, 3 Down London - New Forest 300K Audax;

Is there a magic way to get back into London on the Saturday night via public transport if you think you won't make the last train (11.15pm) from Gerrards Cross?

Uxbridge or Rickmansworth Underground stations on the Metropolitan Line run till midnight or so. They are further to ride to from the finish, so I don’t know if that actually helps you.

8 miles to uxbridge (also on the piccadilly line) last met line train about 00:35
6miles to Rickmansworth, similar last train. So you will need to leave arrivee by midnight giving an extra hour over leaving for gerard cross at 11

14 miles to Stanmore or 21 to Finchley road. I wonder if it is worth the saving

£1.50 for seven miles, I'd take that. I can vouch for the ride as well, a nice ride through London surbubia.

Cheers. This seems like the best bet. As a sometimes full-value rider I probably need to accept that I may not make that. Actually that's not quite true. I'd hopefully finish around midnight, so public transport's a no go, probably.

The last train from Slough to Paddington is at 00:40. According to Google maps, it is about a 45 minute cycle ride from the Arrivee to Slough Station.

The A40 stays quite busy until the small hours but if you don'y mind a couple of smallish lumps a  nice route is - CSP, Rickmansworth, Batchworth, Northwood, Northwood Hills, Pinner, North Harrow, Harrow, Wembley, Stonebridge, Harlesden, Kensal Green, Paddington (pretty much the A404).  Happy to fill in the details as it used to be my regular commute and I imagine should be quite good late at night

Strongly recommend getting a positive reply from Ian before presuming as I'd have expected he'd want to kick everyone out at 0300 )or whenever cut off time is) and go home to his own bed.
