Marion, Jan and I were speculating about the children's diaries when they got back to school:-

"Yesterday I went on a bicycle ride with mummy and daddy and my brother and sister. Charlotte, Liz, Butterfly, Clarion, Teethgrinder, Wowbagger and Mrs Wowbagger all came along too. We had a competition, with a piece of cake as a prize, for whoever could ride up the hills the slowest."

"Miss, how do you spell fixie-chick?"

I can't help but feel Chris might be more flattered by comparison to Lord Vishnu (less contention about the trunk!) ;D

Zoe and Lewis demonstrated to me how properly to crew a triplet:

Then Charlotte and I got a go!

We did get to borrow a stoker though...

I ought to point out that I saw two different styles of tandem honking.  There was the very impressive Triplet honking, where Chris was out of the saddle, although that was what was happening when the chain decided to bury itself behind the sprockets :-\

The other style was with the pilot seated, and the stoker (you, as it happens, Liz) standing on the pedals rushing a rise.  Also impressive. 8)

In this picture, I was as dizzy as I've been for years, having revolved extremely rapidly thanks to various assistants. Try as I might, for about half a minute I simply couldn't get up.

I was changing gear at the same time! Perhaps not such a good idea, but it hasn't been a problem in the past (except for when the same thing happened in Dorset about four years ago).

tbf, it was a very steep bit of hill, and you were putting an awful lot of power down, with not a trace of wobble on that mighty machine.  Top honking, sir!

As our chain was misbehaving (overenthusiastically leaping across) three times in all, I understand your problem.  Glad we could get you going again :)

Thanks for that Butterfly, I was going to put the chain back on myself, but by the time I had walked to the back of the bike you already had your hands dirty.

No it's [decides to keep the picture for guess the place], but I'm quite happy to organise a ride from Northampton to there (It'll take a week or two though).
