Some excellent pictures there, Ian.

Reminds me of all the ones I should've taken when I rode through there to Whitstable last Friday

Yellowhammer, that's a much more interesting commute than mine, but I suspect it also gets a lot windier.

It's not as bad as it looks, but it is always a headwind of course, regardless of direction of travel. ::-) ;D Annoyingly, the MTB is quicker and comfier along most of it than my shiny new road bike, since the surface has been improved.
I don't know where it is (I'm guessing Kent east coast cos of the Dickens) but it's probably the first time I've felt like visiting a place because of someone's journey to work.  :)

*envious*

My commute used to have views of nice council houses, which gradually had metal shutters put over the doors and windows.  Now these are interspersed with fields of rubble where they've been demolished.  There are a few standing with 'for sale' signs outside, no doubt people who took 'advantage' of the Right To Buy.   :-\

It really is incredibly grim.

Last night, my commute included this:

The sign reads 'What Does It All Mean?' (the other side had some kind of picture, which may have been based on the 2012 logo), and the security guards were onto them within thirty seconds

OK, I had a bit of time this evening.  This is part of one of my routes:

Lambeth Palace

Westminster in the distance

IMO on Albert Embankment

Pottery factory which had been on the riverside before the Embankment was built.  Note the High St

Cricket fans might know these

Stockwell

Children's decoration at Oasis Nature Centre

Weak bridge with crap signage but a welcome bike lane

Clapham Common

I'm amazed by that photo.  The Common was really really busy, but there was no one on the path at the moment I took it.

Great definition of "nice"  ;)  Nice pictures, both of you.  I must try and get some pictures next week, if the weather holds ...

I finally got round to uploading my pictures from Monday's ride home:-

Just for Paul R, a picture of work from the start of the cycle path: -

Setting off out into the fields: -

St Bridget's Chapel (Beckermet's old church)

Riding alongside the river Ehen near Braystones: -

The first of the two 'rollercoaster' hills between Braystones and Nethertown: -

Not strictly on my commute (100yrds off down a road) but this is my local station :)

More laney goodness (note the pile of stones in the middle of the road - surface dressing isn't very sensible on single track roads)

Looking out to sea near St Bees

Outrigg, the steep hill out of St Bees (18%)

and the view from the top of Outrigg, heading towards Egremont

Sellafield - doesn't really produce power now as the site is being decomissioned

Thank you, mcshroom.  Oh how I'd love to have countryside (even with nuclear installations) on my commute!  Mine does go past a tank - I think it's a T34 or some name like that.

I thought I recognised that - it's the gate, mostly! - and clicking on your profile confirms that I do! Yum yum, now is the season!

You mean it is the strawberry trail/route (former railroad according to the info boards) where I couldn't find any strawberries in late May?
Forgive me Father, for I have sinned. It has been too many days since I have ridden through the night with a brevet card in my pocket...

The reason there aren't any strawberries nowadays is because the railway's closed!

But guess what - I bought some Cheddar strawberries earlier this week! I like to imagine they were pedalled along the Strawberry Line on a fleet of cargo bikes before being lovingly hand-packed into straw-lined, wooden boxes at Yatton station's Great Western Goods Terminal.

A couple of poor phone pics from this morning's ride in ( before I came off on ice! ).
It was a glorious winter morning, and the sunrise on the CoM was quite spectacular, with pink early-morning sun picking out shapes and relief that you don't normally see.

Approaching the final climb to the CoM summit:
( The road was like a tunnel of snow for several k, the picture doesn't really do it justice. )

Those climbs of CoM should really pay dividends now you've got a properly challenging commute!
Right! What's next?

Ooooh. That sounds like a daft idea.  I am in!

Especially on those days when you get a headwind in the morning which turns through 180 degrees in the afternoon!
