« on: 18 January, 2020, 08:33:46 am »
Hello, registration for the BOB 2020 is open.
During 2 weeks we take 60 entries for the all-in formula (or untill the limit of 60 entries is reached).

All-in means:
entry fee: 10 euro
at km 555 (Champlon) and km 840 (Lommel):
B&B (bed - douche - breakfast): 2 x 35 euro
evening meal: hot meal and a beverage: 2 x 12 euro
bagdrop: 2 x 5 euro
Total: 114 euro.
If your entry is made before 23h59 on 31 january 2020 you get a 10 euro discount,

so total = 104 euro
There will be no discount starting 1 february 2020 and you are free to choose each option separately.

After 13 hours there are only 17 all-in entries left.

I've entered! Last time we grouped together to pay entry for a few of us, to save the international transfer costs. If anyone wants to do this, I'm happy to join you, or arrange it.

I'm in as well. Did consider the ACME Grand - Further West which is a the same time, but BoB is a lot more convenient for me travel wise.

I've failed on both: BoB is a fabulous ride through some great landscapes on good roads. ACME Grand also good but is in Britain, so IMHO surfaces not as good, drivers less considerate. YMMV.
Besides, it wouldn't be audacious if success were guaranteed.

I've started to use TransferWise for international payments. It works out much better than mainstream banks. Might be an option if you're facing a significant international transfer cost.

Yes Transferwise is great and I just keep a certain amount in my Euro account to cover my upcoming trips. I move money across from the GBP account when the exchange rate is at a recent high. This way you are insulated from exchange rate fluctuations at the time of a trip or paying for something. Plus no fees when you use the card in euro land.

Does anyone know what the Second option choice means on the entry page for this ?

The 60 All-in places are all gone. (What all-in means: see above.)

Entries starting 1 february are not all-in. That means that you can pick your options.
Maybe you want to sleep at the first manned control but not at the second or you want to eat at a control but want to ride on without sleeping there. Or maybe you just want bagdrops at the 2 manned controls and nothing else.
Your choice.

At the beginning there will be no limit on food or bagdrops, but if the demand surpasses our possibilities (depending on how many volunteers we can get or the transport options we have) we may have to set limits and stop taking some options.

Those were happy days when sterling was high against other currencies - before June 2016.

In the spirit of judgements about the happiness of days, I think you'll find that the average of the sterling/euro rate since 2009 is much the rate it is today. 2014-June 2016 was the short period of 'halcyon days' and maybe had more to do with the weakness of the euro and the trials and tribulations of the eurozone than sterling's strength. More knowledgeable heads may provide a far more accurate analysis.

Ignoring the pounds dips in 2010 and 2011 and assuming the current position is a spike due to delayed brexit:

It's generally been much stronger than it has the last 3 years.

Unfortunately XE only goes back 10 years on its graphs.

The euro/pound rate has fluctuated wildly since the euro started trading in the late 90's.
It started round 1,40 and was usually at least 1,30 up to the credit crisis era... After that it nearly reached parity in 09 but you can consider 1.25 to 1.30 as normal territory. I would agree that the last 3 years Sterling has been weak... Where it goes from here is anyone's guess. The next eurozone crisis could easily undo brexit weakness
Since I moved to NL in the late 80's the pound rate has always been a rollercoaster ride!

Scroll down to the exchange rate section, there is an historic Sterling chart

This has piqued my interest, it's easy to get to for me and it's the week after the school summer holidays, so I'm in.

A quick squizz at my bank's IBAN transfer T&Cs and I reckon if I use their app it'll be £7 charge from the receiving bank only, which isn't the end of the world.

Rohnny: your finish date on the front page of the site is wrong; it says Sunday 7th September, which should be Sunday 6th.

Signed up and paid. Annoyed I missed the last edition of this and given my relatively light race goals this year I figured it would be silly not to tick the BoB off.

Just to say I thoroughly recommend having a go at this ride!  Super event, well organised and fantastic route/country.  I have other commitments this year, but do plan to be back one day to ride it again
