Playing with my bike computer outside the supermarket, as you do, I noticed I now have a new max speed. The previous one was set about a month ago following a bus down a steep but short hill. I haven't been down (or up) any comparable hill since, so I think this one must have happened with a tailwind - it's been pretty windy here the last couple of days. Strange how I only noticed the extra effort needed for the slower speed into the headwinds...

congratulations to the station announcer at Farringdon Road this morning, when she referred to 'the train now standing alongside platform 1' instead of 'the train now standing on platform 1'.  It's always bugged me.

I am able to get mrs. jogler's folding lectrikery bike on to the back seat of the Mondeo(the boot is permenantly full of other things).
This means that with minimum faffing I can get any combination of our bikes onto/into either vehicle.
The real bonus is that if I am away "playing at bikes" with any bike the Volvo will be left behind for mrs. jogler to drive which suits her best 'cause it's auto & her left knee is the one which gives her grief IYSWIM

You would like Polish station announcements, they say "the train standing on track 1 next to platform 2".

What's wrong with announcing the train is standing at platform 1? (Unless it's really at platform 3 obv.)

I think at would be good in English. In the Polish context it's a little different, as platform there refers strictly to the structure on which you stand, as distinct from the track.

Three jars of rowan berry jam in the kitchen, to add to the four of plum jam. And the fourteen of blueberries and over a hundred of preserved cucumbers!

It doesn't get much better than the last couple of weekends. First 200km ride last Saturday. A great YACF ride over the Trough of Bowland yesterday and today we accompanied the lovely Pippa on a short length of her LeJog. Cycling heaven.

Did the suitor ou ask your permission first? My daughter's husband asked mine. I was really touched and really very surprised that these days it was considered to be any of my business.
