Twitter thread summarising it.

He was doing ever so well till he went beyond the basic facts.
Having travelled to a couple of dozen non-EU countries, most of them on a bike and without a definite agenda, it's worth saying that countries requiring confirmed accommodation for every night, proof of itinerary etc is
1) Pretty common
2) Nowhere near universal
3) Observed with widely varying levels of strenuousness.
There are lots of countries that will let you in without a hotel booking for every night, so it's not an inevitable consequence of leaving the EU, though the Schengen zone does have harsh border checks at its borders, in exchange for allowing you to travel between 26 countries visa-free once you're in. Of countries that do require this sort of thing, some don't really care, some want you to make some tokenistic effort (e.g. in Japan, mentioning a friend's house at the border and being evasive as to quite how long I intended to stay there), and some (e.g. China if you want to cycle) require you to make an entire fake itinerary using refundable bookings sites.
If France want to behave like China, it's up to them but it isn't a good look. I highly doubt it'll turn out like that though.
