The "Buggrit, I'm ill!" thread
« on: 19 December, 2013, 09:58:28 pm »
I have had my grandson snotting at me for a good deal of the week. His dad has ulcerated tonsils with what is almost certainly the same infection. Aunt Phyllis is also really bad - not good for someone approaching her 95th Christmas - and in the last hour or so I have begun to have the symptoms: nose filling up, throat getting sore, that sort of thing, and I've got a concert to sing in on Saturday.

Buggrit! I'm ill!

I seem to have managed to stop being ill, finally.

I predict lots of really shite cycling weather is about to set in.

Yep, I have the cold as well and it is a lovely day outside for cycling - maybe a bimble aound the park once I have sneezed over making some mince pies.

I've still got the sodding snot and now it's buggering up my balance - waking up in the middle of the night with the world spinning and panicky heartrate is getting tedious now.

Have pulled out of going to Sheffield for a friend's joint 100th with her dad big party which I've been looking forward to for weeks.  Might have to delay seeing family until after Xmas itself cos I can't visit if I'm snotty.

Bored, ill and my brain doesn't fucking work properly.  Suspect my "holiday" is going to be spent "ill" which is unfair!

I am still suffering. Coughing, sore throat, trouble speaking, snotting. I am a delight.

I too am the picture of seasonal cheer. I had a cold - make that two - before Christmas, which had resolved into just an irritating cough in time to visit my sons in-laws on The day and Boxing Day, the day after Boxing Day ( which really ought to have a name of its own) I came down with the mother & father of a disease, which I'm now convinced was flu.
I can fall asleep without any provocation, but will wake in a coughing fit, drenched in perspiration (we don't sweat here, dontchaknow). My head is filled with snot, and now my ears are starting to itch.
Anyone want it?
Didn't think so.

Glad I'm not the only one. Should've started back to work today but had no sleep at all so I've sat on the sofa all day. I've not completely wasted the time, I've done a bit of work via the iPad and answered my mobile.

My wife and I both started with this yesterday afternoon at the same time. I had no sleep because the second I closed my eyes I stopped breathing due to phlegm build up!! My ribs are now sore with coughing.

Never thought I'd say it but I can't wait to get back to work.

And my sore throat/snotty nose has come back to haunt me again. This has been troubling me on-and-off for at least two months now. I shall try to get an doc's appointment for tomorrow (I had an appointment in early Jan as well which resulted in a course of amoxycillin) to see if I can get this sorted out. It's a dry cough and I feel pretty asthmatic with it. The trouble is that this sort of thing is one of the known side-effects of methotrexate, which in itself is an immunosuppressant. It's one of those specialist drugs that GPs don't usually know a lot about as a prescription for it can only be initiated by a consultant, apparently. GPs only dish out repeat prescriptions.

I don't want to have to stop taking the stuff because it's a great remedy for all the nastiness associated with rheumatoid arthritis, which of course is why I take it.

Well, my lungs are clear (I knew that) and the doc considers I have a post-viral inflammation. No treatment, just wait until it goes. If it hasn't within a fortnight go back to be painfully destroyed.

Went home from work yesterday at 1pm with the lurg TM, probably from friend who visited last Fri-Sun possibly via Kim.  I initially thought I was having bad fucking-morning-itis when I couldn't read my screen properly, but typing was affected as was my ability to use brain to keep my students apart in my head which made me a liability at work...

Hoping it's gone by tomorrow, I am supposed to be on strike and would like to show my face at the pickets as I didn't manage last time due to $ill either. Also have physioterrorist appt at midday for sodding hipTM.

Sore throat, coughing, sneezing: no choir for me this week.
