A week too late, I discover that Quest are showing nightly Giro highlights. A bugger I missed the Etna stage. (Yes I know I can watch it in Youtube as well, but I like highlights as opposed to live coverage).
Doh

Noted, thanks  :)

(Here's the catchup link - for St6 as it happens - for other people as stupid as me and rafletcher: https://www.questtv.co.uk/video/giro-2018#5782972666001 )

Thank you

Patrick Melrose - based on the novels by Edward St Aubyn, adapted by David Nicholls and starting Benedict Cumberbatch.

Tonight’s first episode was actually based on the second novel, which makes dramatic sense and I thought worked really well. I liked the books a lot but the first is pretty harrowing and may not have been an ideal way to introduce the character on screen.

Benedict Cumberbatch is superb, couldn’t think of anyone more perfect to play the part - although he is strictly about 15-20 years too old for the 20-something Patrick of the second novel. Anyway, he puts in a fine performance, very convincing and very true to the book. The script and his performance certainly capture the tone of the books.

Hugo Weaving is also excellent as his appalling father.

Worthy of a thread on its own in The Pub IMHO.
How innovative it appeared to be then and how long they have lasted.
Almost my entire lifetime of ECML journeys. Still remember the Deltic types that preceded them though.

I loved the Deltics. What's surprising is that there were only ever 22 Deltics and that they last ran a scheduled service in 1981.
I think you'll find it's a bit more complicated than that.

New series of Atlanta started on BBC2 last night. I have to admit that the first series passed me by, and tbh I only started watching it because it was on straight after Newsnight, but I was captivated from the opening scene. Superb. Utterly gripping, funny, smart, sad... Reminded me of Boys From The Blackstuff in its darkly comic tone and sense of despair combined with simmering rage.

I shall be catching up with the first series asap.

ETA: seems it was the first series that started on telly last night, second series isn't over here yet.

My sinister agents tell me that the fourth and final series of "The Bridge" is to hit our shores in "May".

Scandinoir correspondent confirms May 11th.  And it's on BBC2, not BBC4.

That'll be tonight then. Yay!

So far just about everyone involved is a nutter.  Except Jonas, who's just an arsehole.

I made the same observation about the street kids. Almost seems too obvious though - could be a smokescreen.

Mind you, after...

A new series of Montalbano begins this evening. A shame they haven’t made more of the Young Montalbano too.

Aye, the old one's starting to go brown curl up at the edges. In a just world poor old Fazio would be Questore by now.

After Ep2, I’ve gone right off Hugo Weaving. I know it’s only acting but... David Melrose is such a thoroughly nasty character that it’s hard to enjoy seeing him portrayed so convincingly.

It’s an exceptionally well made production in every respect. Definitely does the books justice.

Is it wrong to have the dual guilty pleasures of '24 Hours In A&E' and '24 Hours In Police Custody'?

The former because of the fabulous and selfless efforts of the medical staff. The latter just makes me feel so lucky to have been raised right . . .

Final episode of the Bridge tonight.

I reckon they both died at the end of series 3 and this has all been an extended dream by the rest of the cast.

Interesting theory. There was certainly something a bit "Jacob's Ladder" about...

Haven't seen Jacob's Ladder - but surely that was straight out of "Seven"? (in fact the whole theme is quite close to the plot of Seven. But that's OK, it was a good film ... )

Haven't seen Jacob's Ladder

Well, perhaps the neatest way to sum it up is that...

But yes, the comparison to Seven is more obvious - shamelessly so.
