It would appear that Mr. Gerrard was impressed by this effort.

Not a particularly amazing score, but surely Hartlepool's goalscorers scored their goals in the wrong order.

England 2 - 1 Brazil

is pretty amazing, even for a friendly match.

I saw some pics in the Metro today, and the England players seemed to have black armbands on.  What was that about?

There was a minute's silence at the start to remember Bobby Moore, the victims of the Brazilian disco fire and the Munich air disaster.

1904   Corinthians 11 - 3 Manchester United

Manchester United's heaviest ever defeat.

(Mini-hatler plays for one of the Corinthian Casuals' youth sides.)

Thank you.  That seems fitting.

It was 55 years yesterday that the Munich disaster happened and 20 years this month since Bobby Moore died.

Used to play a lot of football years ago.

Went home one Sunday, and the conversation went :

"How did you get on?"
"I scored a hat-trick"
"Oh, great. You must have won then?"
"No, we lost 2-1"

Yes, I admit it. We went one-nil down after a shot by the opposition bounced off my hip past our goalie. I managed to (or so I thought at the time) redeem myself  by scoring an equaliser with a fluffed shot that sent their keeper the wrong way, but leaping with one of their forwards to defend a corner, managed to skim a header into my own net.

So we lost 2-1 and all goals were credited to me.

There was much taking of the Michael, and when I was offered the match ball for keeps, both teams gathered around cheering.

2-1 is not an amazing score, but I bet they are not very often all scored by the same player !

D'oh!

Very good! Some years ago Saarfend were vying for promotion from whatever lowly division they were playing in at the time, as were their opponents in a particular match, Doncaster IIRC. The final score was 2 - 2 and Southend players scored all four.

Ha ! I'd love to see a post-match interview with the manager. The phrase nip-and tuck comes to mind.
