Many mentions upthread of to-scale orrereyeyeys scale models of the solar system. If the models of the inner planets are visible to the naked eye, the resulting system won't fit in the child's bedroom house.


Yeah, I knew it would never be entirely accurate, but the one I saw in Smiths had them all evenly spaced, which jarred a lot.

Living and cycling in York, I have a pretty good appreciation of the scale of the solar system. (and those in the know, know why!)

One day, I'll take Oli on a long bike ride...

Update: I bought the M and S space kit, and it seemed to go down well. Oli and Dad were out in the garden on Christmas afternoon with a tray of flour and the marbles, creating craters, and I think they assembled the mini telescope and the solar system too.

I shouldn't have worried. His main present from his Mum and Dad was a Nikon digital camera...
