Feeling lazy, so just a bowl of the spicy lentil dall I made earlier in the week with some diced black pudding chucked in.

Leftover pork, orange and star anise casserole from yesterday's slow-cooking.  It's a Sara Lewis recipe: http://www.slowcookerrecipes.org.uk/pork-orange-star-anise.htm

Hmm, I'll adapt that for a casserole, adds to the repertoire.

Hope you enjoy it - it's rather scrummy!  Even my annoyingly fussy kids love it

Home made pesto using basil I grew in the garden.

Well, it’s in the oven now for say 2-2 1/2 hrs @150C. Added garlic, omitted chilli (Unfortunately my wife has developed an intolerance to them). We’ll not have it tonight, so it’ll have time to meld.

Roast pork with roasted potatoes, carrots, parsnips, onion and apple, with some peas as well.
A return to our 'winter' veg choice. We've been having new potatoes (roasted), peppers, tomatoes, and mushrooms over the summer.

Steak and stout pie:

Internal view:

Bit of a laborious process - the filling went in the slow cooker yesterday evening to cook overnight, and I made the puff pastry from scratch this afternoon. But it was well worth it. Very satisfying indeed.

And I used the pastry offcuts to make a few mince pies too:

As we are preparing to unleash our navy on the odious French I thought I’d have something appropriate for dinner.  "Trafalgar" kiln smoked trout fillets.   They've even got a pic of that Nelson chap on the packet.  Quite tasty with a squeeze of lemon.

A yellow split pea dal with a ghee based tadka.

It’s sooooo good.
Milk please, no sugar.

Cold lamb and potato wedges, with romesco sauce.
The sauce was one of the technical challenges on the current series of Professional Masterchef and is really easy and good.
Made some on Saturday and there was plenty left over. Garlic, peppers, almonds, sherry vinegar (we used balsamic as Tesco didn't have the sherry), smoked paprika and olive oil.  :smug:

I recently bought a 3L "Instant Pot" which I'm rather pleased with, never having used a pressure cooker before.

Tonight I was very lazy,  I just sauteed diced onion & bacon in a little oil, then added some basmati & water then pressure cooked it for 6 minutes.   Let the pressure drop then mix in 2 eggs & a dash of chilli sauce.

I don't know what you'd call it but it was filling & tasty  :P

Ah mush.    Another friend of mine keeps trying to get me to buy one of these rather than using a slow cooker which he terms passe.

It's  Tuesday, so it's the day Len Fish comes.  This week we had fresh trout. A bit fiddley to clean but so worth it.  :P
Admission.  I'm actually not that fussed about cake.

Anything considered leftovers.

A large can of cassoulet I found at the back of the cupboard. Its one of a batch I bought in France a while ago. The "best before" date is 2019.
I think you'll find it's a bit more complicated than that.

Darren Fish failed to appear yesterday, so it will be fishcakes from Tesco instead.  :(
(They are actually quite good, so it's not a total disaster.)

Chicken leftovers with seasonal fruit mush1 sauce & vegetables.

1) Dreadful plums, prunes, clementines, frozen cranberries, Demerara sugar, ginger, lemon juice & lime juice, simmered together in the microwave.

A not-vegetarian cauliflower cheese, with added lardons and garlic. Yummy.

Slow roasted shoulder of mutton, with roast potatoes, carrots, celeriac and onions, peas, red cabbage with apples, and gravy. Rather good.

First time I've tried slow roasting mutton (we've done lamb in the slow cooker which was also a success).

About three separate leftovers from the fridge, re-fried and piled high. Total yummy.

Cheese and biscuits.

It was supposed to be roast lamb with Yorkshires etc.

Unfortunately the village pub who we have been buying a Sunday roast takeaway from every week in solidarity with during the Covid crisis has decided not to do takeaways in lock down 3. I didn't find out until too late.
I think you'll find it's a bit more complicated than that.

I saw Jamie Oliver on the tellybox cooking meatloaf with spaghetti and tried it out last night.  I used half beef and half pork mince and it was lush.  The boys weren't so sure...

Darren the Fish failed to show again this week. So F&C from the pub it is, then. (Got to do our bit to keep the local businesses running in these hard times.)
