Any ideas please?
Rode the Heart of England 300 on Saturday, with an additional ride to the start and back.
However when I tried to upload ride to Strava using FIT File Tools a chunk of the ride failed to appear.
What can I do to correct this challenge????

Have you tried uploading to Strava direct - there is no need to use FIT file tools.

Did you record it as one file - is it missing a bit in the middle or at the start or end of the recorded track? Or did you record several tracks and use Fit file tools to join them post ride?

It was recorded as a series of legs, I stopped Garmin to recharge at each control. The ride is there as the legs, but I wanted to join them up, which is when the challenge arose. Some legs didn't appear when I tried to join it all with FitFile

Load it up to Strava and then drop them a query and they will join it into one.

You can join multiple activities together using https://www.fitfiletools.com
There are a couple of other online tools which do similar.

Not sure why you have had problems with FitFile Tools. I've noticed issues if I use Internet Explorer though and now always use Google Chrome when using FitFile Tools - just joined 4 files and all OK.

Load it up to Strava and then drop them a query and they will join it into one.

Top Tip - let someone else do the work

I find it easier to record the whole ride in one go, then upload it to strava directly when I get to a computer. If the ride is likely to be beyond the battery life of my Garmin 200, I just run it from a power bank taped to my stem from the start, or use the USB port of my Luxos U, depending which bike I'm on. It saves faffing about at controls and after the ride. Also, when using external power the backlight is automatically on, which is handy at night.
When I make a track to follow, I upload the gpx track for the whole ride to bikehike, then add control locations as course points, not using the generic option. I give the track a suitable name, adjust the speed, save it as a tcx file and copy this to New Files on the Garmin. This means that I get a single track with countdown of distance and time to the next control. When approaching the penultimate control, it tells me the distance to that control and the estimated time to the end of the ride, based on the average speed that I put in to bikehike.

if you upload all to strava, you can export gpx for each ride, then add them together using notepad. paste everything between <trk> and </trk> from the subsequent files into the end of the first file just before the </trk>.

For rides over 300km I save the ride every 200 - 250km. For older Garmin devices this was necessary, and I still continue to do this for peace of mind. I use http://www.gpsies.com/convert.do;?language=en to convert the FIT to GPX, and then http://joewein.net/bike/gpxmerge/ to merge the GPX.

If you resolve your file issue, you will need to remove the previous incomplete versions from Strava first before loading the correct version.
