Sometime in the next 12 months  it will be 50 years since I brought my first ever seven inch single.

"What's a seven inch single Granddad?"

Dr Beardy (Mrs)1 would be very disparaging at the use of the word ''old' used to describe someone because apparently if you need to refer to someone with chronologically derived tag, you should refer to them as 'older' (or younger as appropriate). Apparently there is no such demographic as 'old'

1. in a former life the good doctor was a nurse who spent much of that career looking after people with age related issues. It used to be called geriatric nursing. when she first embarked on an academic career, she studied something she knew, i.e. looking after older people. She did this in parallel with studying, what was later to become her speciality, death.
For every complex problem in the world, there is a simple and easily understood solution that’s wrong.

One rule of thumb I heard for "old" is when you've been in full time work for more than half your life.  That was over six years ago.  If it's just working at all, I've been doing that for two-thirds of my life.

Well, thanks to Ma Thatch, the gig economy, etc, some of us may never be old.
Getting there...

You don't sound very grateful.

My Gran was alive for the first powered flight and also the moon landings.
Her father witnessed transport going from horse & cart to spaceship.
Some people say I'm self-obsessed but that's enough about them.

And it's just about 40 years since I bought my last 7 inch single

And it still gets played from time to time.
Why should anybody steal a watch when they can steal a bicycle?

My maternal grandmother, who died when I was 16, was 12 when the Wright Brothers first got airborne.

In other news, I saw The Who live in Reading in 1971.

My paternal grandmother, who died when I was 40 remembered the first trams on her street.

Yay!
That'd be me then (despite turning 65 last Friday).
There's no vibrations, but wait.

Cursed by boyish good looks I used to try and cultivate looking haggard. I'm starting to get quite good at it... though there's still room for improvement...
