Combi boiler whining

A seasonal post.

I have the issue essentially described in the OP here.

http://forums.moneysavingexpert.com/showthread.php?t=5200732

Boiler whines a fair bit.

Sometimes, or very often, the boiler is fine until I open a tap, then the whining starts.

By chance a fair while ago I discovered, like the poster here, that running the kitchen hot tap, then switching it off seemed to solve the problem, creating a "whoosh" in the boiler flame as it did so.

It's being doing this on and off for three years or so but now seems to be becoming more common.

Any folks got any ideas what it is?

Is it a real cause for concern?

ie safety, ie: boiler about to pack in?

If your boiler us getting an annual service why not ask the boiler tech? If not, get to it.
Do not clench. It only makes it worse.

I'd check the pressure, top up if need be and monitor how fast, if at all, it drops. Check the condensate pipework is free and clear as I've now discovered can be a problem. Otherwise, as Mrs P says, get the service guy to look it over.
Nuns, no sense of humour

Is it a condensing boiler?
Check that the waste outlet is not frozen.

Actually following my ferreting about in a swampy F and E tank our boiler has been making some really odd noises on fire up. So don't know if some of the triffids have gone down the tube or whether a component is on the way out. Otherwise heating is fine.
