Lost an old Friend

Buster, our 13 year old Rag Doll stopped eating last Tuesday.  He had always had a voracious appetite so this was a worrying development.

Despite several vists to the vet he went down hill rapidly.  An X Ray on Saturday showed that he had multiple tumours in his abdomen.

Yesterday I went back to the vets and held him while he was put to sleep.

We miss him terribly.

Very sorry to hear that Roger. It's hard isn't it?

Do not clench. It only makes it worse.

Two of ours are pushing 12.

I think the only cure may be one of these.

Hard work sometimes pays off in the end, but laziness ALWAYS pays off NOW.

Sorry to hear this Roger. It's great that you were there for him til the end, which is not easy.

Commiserations Roger, could not have been easy. My cat Puddleglum took a turn for the worse. She just collapsed in the kitchen. No pain, but very distressed. I stayed with her for an hour and then she recovered a bit. She is eating again but still very thin. Not the pretty British blue she was. It got to the point where I was asking which vets would come out. I would not put her through the whole cat box thing.

Sorry to hear about poor Puddleglum, I hope she improves. She is still very pretty.

Vets will very often provide a house visit; especially if it is deemed necessary on either clinical or welfare grounds. My friend's dog was put to sleep at home.

Sorry to hear about Buster and Puddleglum.  :(

When pets get ill, they seem to go downhill very fast, I guess it's because they can't tell us they don't feel so well, so we only see the more dramatic worsening situation.

My cat Talisker, oddly enough, didn't show any significant symptoms of his hyperthyroidism, other than maybe being a bit skinnier than he should have been, but he's never been a tubby cat.  I'm hoping that once it's been treated, he'll go on for a fair while yet.  He is around 10 to 12 years old, he was pre-owned, so we had no idea exactly how old he is.

Both of my parents cats, that I've known, have lasted to almost 20 years, one that lived opposite them went on to something like 22-23 years.
Actually, it is rocket science.

And time spent by us humans scritching a cat or dog's head is time off purgatory.

Thanks Spindrift, but Actually Buster was a Rag Doll Cat .  His idea of heaven probably did not include anything that our dog thinks is fun  ;)

Thanks everybody for your sympathy, starting to get over it now.

I've thought about it, but it's not quite as pronounceable as Talisker/Tali. :-\
