Favourite bonk rations

Can I recommend the almond muesli bars from Lidl? Cheap and portable
- a qucik fix. And of course bananas.
I note that the record breaking end-to-ender favoured
er, sausages (they can wait till breakfast and then they'd have to be brilliant).

What's your poison?

SIS Go gel.

or a Mars bar.
It takes blood and guts to be this cool but I'm still just a cliché.

Quaker Oat Bars.  But they're tricky to find :(

And banananananas.
Getting there...

Milk
Mars Bars
Bananananananas
Jelly Babies
Tesco Cranberry cereal bars (currently under test)
Lemon & Lime glucose tabs (waste of time probably, at just 10kcals per tablet).

NOT

Oat Bars. They absorb what little spit you might have after 200km hard riding, and just go round and round in the mouth like cement  :-X.

Oat Bars are the business.  But you don't want to choff them down.  Break them into small squares before you set off.

Just about given up on commercial cereal bars. Too expensive, too sweet and not enough calories.

I might start making my own flapjack so I can get the recipe just right. Elsewise:

Cubed Maltloaf and other Soreen goodies.
Slab fruitcake with thick icing is a good morale booster.

Liquice Allsorts.
Shrimps

Jelly babies. The dust, the texture, the flavour, the 20 calorie helpings. Excellent.
It is simpler than it looks.

My emergency energy bar is usually an SiS Go Bar, chocolate orange or banana flavour. However, now, I've found Maxim bars, capuccino flavour, half-covered in chocolate  :o

Honey Stinger Organic Energy Chews are rather good.
It's a bit weird, but actually quite wonderful.

Flap jack.  That is all ye know on earth, and all ye need to know.

I love banananas, but I tend to end up with bananana-flavoured mush.  Mars bars melt

Granola bars are OK, when I can;t get flap jack.

I usually carry extra strong mints, though I doubt they make that much difference.  Occasionally Kendal mint cake, which is only for real emergencies.

Lucozade.  It's a bit like nitrous oxide in a car - it only works for a short time, and it probably reduces your engine life, but it works.

Jelly babies

9-Bars (from Waitrose, so pricey, but soooooo much nicer than a cereal bar and fully calorific).  This sort rather than this sort, I hasten to add.

Gels if necessity demands it

Mini packets of Haribo

Bananas don't work for me, they turn into banana paste in my jersey pocket by the time I need to eat them.

Aye, that's right enough.

Was I being daft?  I was assuming we were on about things you'd chuck in your pack/back pocket.  And there's nowt worse than the disappointment of finding a sloppy mess which you have to suck out of the wrapping cos you've got nothing else and there's not a shop for ten miles in any direction.

Yes, the last-ditch-must-have-something that gives you the energy to get the last ten miles to a proper meal.

Or is there some new definition of "bonk rations" that I'm not aware of?

I don't think anybody has suggested that these are meal replacements, they're emergency rations.

Various favourites, depending on circumstances.

Malt loaf, Coke, figs, dried mango, fruit cake (available from almost any newsagents in plastic wrapping), any jelly-type sweets- but especially yellow or green ones (this may be because everyone beats me to the black jelly babies so I've convinced myself that the green and yellow ones are just as good).

Chocolate Geo-Bars, and the green Apple/Pear School Bars, when I'm not massively desperate.  Jelly Babies are also good, but more of a sugar rush, since they've got little complex carbohydrates to keep you going once the sugar has all gone.  Also Ella's Kitchen Organic Fruit Pouches.

I've got some energy gels now, Strawberry Yoghurt Torq, Orange Juice High5, and Apple Maxim Gel. They are all just about edible, but not actually pleasant.  I miss the old Carnation Condensed Milk squeezy tubes. :(
Actually, it is rocket science.
