I'm contemplating a DIY roof carrier for the tandem for reasons of economy.
However I've come across this VFM offer from SJSC
http://www.sjscycles.co.uk/avenir-tandem-carrier-car-rack-prod18885/
My reservation with this product is the lack of a second vertical support post towards the rear of the tandem frame as was the case with a Pendle rack I used to use.
So my question is...
has anyone otp used this Avenir rack & if so did it provide adequate & convincing support?

It's basically a solo bike carrier with a longer rail. Definitely not engineered for supporting the weight of a tandem. We have not tried ourselves, but a tandem couple that we met at a ride have one, and they always secure their tandem with many, many straps all around.
We have a Pendle rack with vertical support in the middle and fork mount at the front end. We are very happy with it and never had to use any securing strap.
