No, a Super Randonnee 600, which is a different beastie to a BRM 600.

Yes - to be an SR 600, it needs to have 10000m of climbing. The Pendle 600 appears to be the only AUK calendar BRM to fulfill that requirement.

Is there a one sentence description of what a "Super Randonee 600" is somewhere?

1 SUPER RANDONNEE i.e. a permanent of 600 km and at least 10,000 m (32.800 ft) of climbing, homologated by the Audax Club Parisien, ridden in the Randonneur division.

Pretty much, you have to go to France. I think there's a list somewhere of worldwide ones.

Thx Deano and tonyh - think I'll stick to the easy-peasy British R10000 instead ...

The SR600 must be an unsupported 600km perm (not DIY) with more than 10,000m climbing, completed within 50 hours.

Yes - I noticed the 50 hours time limit. So the Pendle 600 doesn't count. That's a shame - it should count really because it still has over 10000m of climbing, there's a lower (40 hour) time limit and the gradients are nuts in places. Such is life ... I'll probably sign up for it anyway. :-)

I think there are differences in the way ascent is calculated that mean the Pendle doesn't qualify on level of climbing in any case. Not sure of any other details, mind.

I think maybe 'when in France' applies here... I'm happy with AUK and our rides, and we haven't really got mountains like the Europeans...  I will admit though that the fairly flat PBP had its exhilarating moments...

So who will join me before 30th September?

Well done (again) Mike.
I managed 100 points in 2013 but since then I've finished in the 70's or 80's which feels like more than enough Audax for me.

"So the Pendle 600 doesn't count. That's a shame - it should count really because it still has over 10000m of climbing,"

For information purposes, the reason the Pendle 600 hasn't been registered with the Super Randonnee 600 series is because that would mean longer hours for the controllers at both the Langwathby control and the finish. Also, the extra 10-hours would obviously have to be ridden through the hours of darkness which would mean possibly climbing over some of the nasty (or normal in my events!) climbs as well as descending some of the steep descents in the dark! This was all factored in when the route was devised with the A686/A66 used for the night-section.

Physically, the event would count for the SR600 series as I'm sure there's over 10000 metres of climbing in the event.

Next year's Knock Ventoux 600, which has a predicted 10800 metres of climbing and set for the weekend of 23-24 June 2018 probably won't be run under the SR600 banner either!

Calendar events don't count. A SR600 has to be a perm.

Thanks for the clarification Andy & LW&B.

Looks like I'll just have to go to France for a long bike ride again.

There's a nice one in Norway, if you fancy a ferry ride or two.

I'm pleased to welcome STEVE GEE to the 'club'.

A superb effort, especially as I think he's working full time.

ACP raised the time limit for Super Randonnées to 60 h a couple of weeks ago. 50 h really was too hard for most men and nearly every woman.

With this weekend's DIY now validated I've passed half-way - 51 points. Twenty weeks left to get the other 49. Not going to be easy, but definitely do-able.

It's actually quite hard to do that in the UK.  You could probably add a 160km loop to the Cambrian 4C with 2000m extra climbing, but that was set up by Peter Coulson to be pretty much as savage as possible.  Some of Andy Corless's rides come close, but getting proof of passage on points that force you to do that amount of climbing rather than sneak around valley roads is hard.

If there's demand I'll do some work on a Cambrian Super 6A.
