Windmill Ride 210km 25th June 2017
« on: 26 June, 2017, 09:25:01 am »
Cycled to the start, cycled the event (just), cycled home (just). Enjoyed the event, and meeting the organiser, Stefan. Enough said, Denise?  ;)
Bikes are for riding, not cleaning!

Yeah, I bet. I rode with the Not So Big Saxon and The Straggler, and I think we only saw four or five others on our way round. Nice spotting the windmills though, and the Newmarket pub (not a 'spoons).

I'd not ridden this event since 2009, no wonder the route had changed a bit. Being from (relatively) hilly Kent, I loved the rolling landscape of this ride.

I was having a great day and going strong without the nausea I've had of late on long rides, but just as I was nearly at the finish I fell foul of the mistake in the route sheet and missed the left turn to Hylands Park. Having gone around the wrong way I then looked at the map on my phone and thought I was at the right roundabout crossing the A414 and promptly headed off in the wrong direction. I made it back having added 28k to an already long day. I should really have had a glance over the route beforehand!
