We've got a picture of our dog, in oils. Thats classy I think.

I would most like to have an original Holmes cake painting though. They are lovely, perfect pics of perfect cakes. Hard to beat that I think.

Otherwise its very hard to find anything to put on the wall that doesn't say something offensive about oneself. As  a result our walls are bare.

How many artworks were tarnished by popularity among the working class?

Is the "Chinese Girl" a dreadful painting or is is simply dreadful because it was hung in so many 1970's council houses?

I think it's a dreadful painting. The fact that it would be seen in council houses doesn't influence me: "middle-class" folk have even more crap in their houses and posh buggers go for some real junk.

The painting is mentioned in David Lodge's "Nice Work" as a paragon of kitsch.
Hard work sometimes pays off in the end, but laziness ALWAYS pays off NOW.

I've not seen that before,  it's just sold for £982,050 http://www.guardian.co.uk/artanddesign/2013/mar/20/tretchikoff-chinese-girl-auction

Don't think I'd give a copy wall space.

It's horrible;  I wouldn't pay 98p for it, let alone a million times that.

I wonder whether the new owner gains the reproduction rights.

Google reveals that all his paintings look the same, or worse.
