Title: The best coloured chocolate wrappers
Post by: bobb on 26 December, 2018, 09:40:41 pm
It has to be purple, right? Any chocolate bar you may purchase will always be better if its wrapper is purple. Any box or tin of Christmas sweets will always be better if they're purple. If it's red, you'll probably throw up due to sweetness, if it's blue it won't taste of anything much, if it's orange you'll be all like blahhhhh and if it's green... well you're fucked. So what do you bunch of weirdos think?

The best coloured most things is purple....

I recently discovered that Cadbury's wrappers are purple, which makes them even more awesome.

Honourable mention for proper Kitkats, which came wrapped in a free 17.5A slow-blow fuse.  The satisfaction of sliding your fingernail along the foil is surely enough to cancel out the fact that they were actually a biscuit.

Not if your Gran was a shop steward at Rowntrees. Then you would find that a certain percentage of the waste ones she gave you were 100% chocolate and no biscuit!

I pity the York kids of today as most chocolate production has moved abroad and with modern machinery I don't think waste chocolates are a thing any more. When I was a kid in the late 60s and 70s every family was either a Terry's or a Rowntrees family and everyone had waste chocolates. I still remember with great fondness the one time the Cabanna machine went on the blink and we got the bars as waste as they were too big to fit in the wrappers.

I spent a fifteen month industrial placement at the factory that made the quality street purple and the flake yellow cellophanes. That, and the membrane that went in Duracell batteries

During one term at st custards my room-mate Nobby Hetherington befriended one of the cleaners, whose husband worked at Rowntrees.  Nobby's Pater worked for $CONFECTIONER in Hull, so there soon sprang up a trade in  offcuts from both factories, to the benefit of all.

When you're several hundred km into an Audax and you fancy a chocolaty, sugary hit - you go purple, right? Yorkie bars, Cadbury? It's all there. Purple's always the way to go....

Aren't (normal) yorkies blue?
I thought purple yorkies were the new fangled fruit and nut ones.
In fact I think dairy milk are a bit sneaky by not making the fruit and nut version a different colour, trying to smuggle it past you thinking it's a standard one and you only realise on eating it that it's a fruit and nut, or worse still a whole nut.

Has to be a Bounty going into the final quarter of an Audax (bit of protein in the coconut), ideally with an iced coffee.

They're all blue to me.  I tell them apart using a cunning strategy of carefully reading the writing on the wrapper to make sure it's not a disappointing nutty one.

Purple's always the way to go....

That's a pretty decent motto for life, not just chocolate.

Yep. They're the only decent ones though.

I don't think you know the difference between purple and blue.

If Wispas are purple they’re somewhere near the bottom, chocolate wise.

Bounties are ok if there's nothing else available. :-\

I find my chocolate tastes change when I'm cycling: I go for stuff with nuts in, which I'd not normally bother with (I don't dislike nuts, but I'm not keen on them in chocolate). I've been known to buy Marathon Snickers bars when out on a ride - I don't even like them normally!

Lindor truffle wrappers are no longer easily separable into coloured foil and plastic outer.

The plastic is now coloured and bonded to the foil, which makes recycling the foil almost impossible.

Red Lindor balls are the best...
