Tomorrow begins the graft to fabricate a tow hitch for the tagalong.

There are 4 bolts in a square on the rear carrier which attach it to the rear spar of the frame. These are almost directly over the axle.

I want to fit a steering head assembly to a plate and bolt the plate on to the carrier then fit the tagalong bracket to the steering head.

Any thoughts?

You mean that you want your adaption to have a pivot in it? Doesn't the trailerbike hitch already have a pivot?

Don't you know double pivots in bikey things are generally a bad idea?  ::-)

How about posting a photo?

I'm sure there are a few people on here that could construct something if you haven't got the facilities.
If it ain't broke, fix it 'til it is...

I want the tagalong to articulate just like the extra headset in the Wobblebike.

Is this not a good idea?

Today I spent doing a little fettling, extra lights, reflectors and general service. I discovered that this bike has covered the sum total of 7.6 km from new!!  :o

Lunchtime and I could manage a little trip around the block and I have to say that I like it. Easy to handle, start and stop. The SRAM Dual Drive hub shifts seamlessly. (I'm not looking forward to removing that wheel, though!) The 'feet forward' seating precludes dancing on the pedals but the backrest allows a stronger than usual shove when you want to accelerate and the position makes stopping a cinch. Brake, stop & foot down. Simples. Push hard and I can feel the abs getting a workout, too. Not that it's going to give me a washboard or a six pack but every little helps

While the weather is crap I'm not going to do the school run with it - I haven't got the attachment for the tagalong anyway -  but I'm going to try to take a little lunchtime run every day, just put a 'Back in 5' notice in the window and leg it to the sandwich shop.

With regard to attaching the tagalong, I was musing on this when a regular customer came in.  It turns out he is an engineer, with access to a CNC milling setup.

He took a steel rule, pen and old envelope and took measurements of the bolt spacing on the rack, along with the coupling on the tagalong. So I'm getting something which will be custom made to fit both so that we have no need to modify either bike. The downside is his repair bill is barely cancelled out by the cost of manufacture. The upside is that the standard attachment can still be used if I want to use the tagalong with a standard bike.

And so we continue . . .

Martin came to the shop today as he needed to check a detail on the tagalong coupling. The part that fits the Revive is done, feast your eyes on this:

This guy REALLY knows his stuff.

The bearing - SKF, only the best - will allow the tagalong to articulate correctly when cornering.

I get the feeling this isn't going to be cheap but, bloody hell! It's GORGEOUS!

Everyone needs a tame engineer.

Especially if that tame engineer has access to a five axis CNC miller

I strongly suspect it might end up being worth more than the bike/tagalong combo . . .

It is complete. Ladies and gentlemen, feast your eyes on this . . .

Tactile, beautiful and unique.

This will allow complete articulation of the trailer bike.

With a bit of luck I should complete the fitting in the next couple of days and the School Bus will soon be in operation.

You may need a radio to communicate, that is a big gap.
